What Happened to JG Jones? Perhaps busy with another Project? Panic Room? LOL

JG Jones is off being overrated for his realism and working on a project that will inevitably be delayed and/or require fill-ins. Why DC kept him around after his failure to deliver with Final Crisis is beyond me, because he's not a spectacular artist in the slightest.

Considering what was revealed on BC during X-Mas, I think he might be busy with another project...

'Panic Room' is the codename within DC Comics for the Watchmen stuff they're preparing.

Probably the most inaccurate and insulting post I've read on these forums in the past week or so.

This is wrong, and you should feel bad. The appeal of J.G. Jones isn't just his "realism," and his art on Final Crisis (and Marvel Boy) was amazing.

For anyone who wants to see the appeal of JG, check out his 52 covers. When the series was ongoing, he had a blog of sorts up on Wizard that showed how he came up with each cover. The amount of thought that went into them was very impressive. Shame he never got to do the lipstick Bat Signal cover.

You know, I liked his work on Wanted - Not that it made up for the tosh Millar passed off as writing. I loved his covers for 52 - The one featuring Lobo is classic Main Man, to say nothing of his sense of design and style for all the other covers. I even own the Covers collection for 52 with all his design notes. But Final Crisis was a massive letdown which only stung more for me when DC tried to pass off bringing in Doug Manhke (who is a great artist in his own right, IMO) as part of their plan all along, and having Pacheco fill in on pages and pages for Jones, which really sucked when we had stuff, as I've stated elsewhere, that I loved as much as his 'GIVE IN' final page for Issue Four and the 'Death of Batman' sequences.

So.. No. I don't feel bad, I just refuse to get excited or offer up praise for someone who spoiled what I felt was one of the better big events in a while. If Jones pencils all five issues or whatever of his Comedian/Watchmen 2 series, as he seems to be, then I'll happily eat my words.

Jones is great when he's got the time. Is he perfect? No. But I enjoy the hell out of his covers. And I'm sad to see him off covers for Frank.

But no one is perfect. Really, I've seen every "great artist" been criticized of their drawing, feet too small, feet too big, no innovative layout, looks rushed bla bla bla. Probably the only exception was francis manapul and maybe jh williams. Literally every other artist has been flamed. So im definitely not looking for perfect artist. If you enjoy it, its good enough. I for one enjoy his work and thats all that matters. Sad to see him not doing anymore frankie covers, but I'm hoping he is producing something even more exciting.

I did realise DC didnt release all their talents for the relaunch, gene ha, cully hammer, andy kubert and lots more seem to just be doing back ups or mini. Not sure if the decision is due to their inability to cope for a monthly deadline or are they just saving them for other projects.

Personally I feel that Final Crisis had the best fill-in art a person could ask for, it wasn't jarring at all, all the art flowed well and the different styles complemented the rapid changes going on. I really like that Mahnke did the last issue, that shift from the more realistic Jones art to Mahnke's sort of gritty-cartoony style actually fit perfectly with the plot. So in some ways I'm glad that Jones wasn't able to finish Final Crisis, though I imagine if I had been reading it as it came out I wouldn't have been incredibly pleased with the delay of #7.

Manhke's style was fine for Superman's return and the final chapter, but DC were liars, frankly. I know during that period they did their level best to cover up any patches in their production schedule by getting fill-ins to make sure the book came out on time, which is fine since they had that disastrous patch with Adam Kubert on Action Comics and Heinberg on Wonder Woman, but it was a blatant lie, frankly, that it was the plan for Mankhe to take over in the last stage of the story - It was touted as the big megaevent by Morrison and Jones, after all; What we got made it sting just as bad as Jiminez not doing all of Infinite Crisis.

That we had those sets of pictures coming out with Morrison and Jones comically gushing and mugging at the completed pages from some con or another just made it more insulting, especially when the latter should know his limitations as an artist and forgo appearing at cons in order to get his work done.
