Yeah, those are my two primary reasons: Mission Impossible and Brad Bird. Lately I've been watching the old show on Netflix and MI3 came the closest to evoking the feel of the show. Knowing how much Bird is a fan of the 60s, I'd love to see his take on the franchise. I'll be sure to watch it soon, regardless of Tom Cruise.

    I watched the movie today.

    Loved it.

I don't get all the Cruise-hate. I think he's awesome. This movie was pretty spectacular in all ends. Great action sequences. Brad Bird's first live-action movie was very well done. The cast was great.

    And Paula Patton!

    Seriously...Paula Patton! HOT!

I will see this movie again.

Wow a comedy/musical thats coming out this summer. Which is premature to claim its gonna bomb right now. Its a risky movie for sure. But Cruise is in a film with the following people...like a huge cast of names.

    Alec Baldwin
Julianne Hough (growing young actress already coming off Footloose)
    Bryan Cranston
    Catherine Zeta Jones
Kevin Nash (yes the pro wrestler)
    Mary J Blige
    Paul Giamatti

In cameos Sebastian Bach , Constantine (from AI) and Nuno Bettencourt will show up.

Its a risky film with a budget of $80 million. Its a big screen musical comedy focused on the 80's hair metal scene. Cruise has some balls to do it.

I Also don't get all the Cruise hate. Just saw Ghost Protocol this afternoon and it was a worthy thriller - possibly the best this year.

Nevermind the Cruise factor, the Mission Impossible franchise is a license to print money. People are gonna show up. It's not like a geek movie like super-heroes and sci-fi or fantasy, pure action movies usualy attract a larger part of the audience, especially the guys who wouldn't be caught dead watching a super-hero movie. There was The Expandables but this was more like a throwbacks with older actors with somewhat of a pitty factor(guys like there used to be). Mission Impossible is the pure action flick in the classic sense, pure escapism like the classic Bond flicks, it's exciting, it's cool, you're gonna have a great time. There's gonna be some fantasy in it but it's not gonna be about a guy changing time with a ring or something.

I'm not the world's biggest Cruise fan - he can be a hit or miss for me sometimes - but the guy's a bona fide superstar. I think it must come down to a bit of 'tall poppy syndrome' with people, 'cause lord knows the guy still makes good movies.

    Hopefully seeing this tomorrow.

Tom has a rock movie coming out soon, yes?

I think it'd be more accurate to peg any hopes for his box office dominance on that film, and not this one - a blockbuster SFX action/adventure movie with (between the past movies and the genre in general) a big built-in audience.

If I had to guess concerning the Cruise hate, in the internet sometimes it's just cool to hate. Me personally he isn't one of my favorite actors but some of his films can be watchable

In something like fifty odd theaters? Maybe less. That just isn't going to explain those numbers at all. I'm just saying....

Yeah, that's only in IMAX theaters. By Dec. 23 the film made around $160 million after it was released in all other theaters (thus no Batman trailer), so unless IMAX charges thousands per ticket, you're right, it doesn't explain those numbers. Simply put, the film's success is what it is. And considering that the film had a budget of $145 million, it's generating a profit already. Hardly a box office failure.

Yeah, that was my first thought. I hadn't heard any such rumors. But then, I haven't seen a Tom Cruise movie since the first Mission Impossible, so I could just be out of the loop.
