Well, the hubris is characteristic of Millar.

    Default Glaswegian self-parody

As a fellow Glaswegian, I think Millar's PR is largely tongue-in-cheek. In Glasgow, and to a lesser degree Scotland as a whole, you get cuffed round the ear or quickly derided if you boast or blow your own trumpet, so you grow up self-conscious about self-congratulation. Arrogance is practically a cardinal sin here. That's one of the main reasons why we hate the English media so much, as they assume they will win the World Cup even before the bloody thing has even kicked off! So, I'd take his pronouncements as so deliberately over-the-top it's a clue he is not entirely without a sense of self parody.

And, while we are on the subject of self-promotion, Stan Lee is my god but he has been guilty of exactly the same sort of thing. I'm reading The Stan Lee Universe at the moment, and enjoying it, but Stan says at one point (and I'm paraphrasing slightly), "Even if we only sold two comics a month, I'd think we were Number One". No hint of modesty in there, although you can almost see Stan say that with a little twinkle in his eye.

Millar's just channeling Stan. And, let's face it, if you are choosing to channel someone, who better than THE MAN?

    What a big sigh-inducer.

I'm starting to hear Michael Bay/Transformers sound effect whenever Millar makes an announcement.

I'm not turned off that I think he actually believes this, I'm turned off that I think he actually thinks comic fans are that easy to lure.

Mark Millar has written an all-new, in-continuity prequel leading-in to his hotly anticipated new series SUPERCROOKS.
I'm sorry, but how is this "Hotly Anticipated?" There's been like one article about it & a single image... So who is this hotly anticipated by? i mean other then by Millar himself?

So, I'd take his pronouncements as so deliberately over-the-top it's a clue he is not entirely without a sense of self parody
really? Because i take it more as "hi, i'm a poor mans Grant Morrison, so i have a hugely undeserved ego." But maybe thats just my skeptism at another "hotly anticipated" book being talked up... Just once i want to see an article about a new comic where it says "yeah, its alright, i suppose" or "look its not an x-man book & its not written by someone with a track record of missing release dates by months" or "Hi guys, i've written this book, it has no subtext, its just a comic book." Thats what i want to see in a comic book article... Maybe some actual information & maybe a page of art, or design sketches, something to let me make an informed choice... Not just another sound bite.

And, while we are on the subject of self-promotion, Stan Lee is my god but he has been guilty of exactly the same sort of thing. Yes but we all know Stan Lee is a secret agent for the CIA.

Millar's just channeling Stan. And, let's face it, if you are choosing to channel someone, who better than THE MAN?
    more like he's channeling Morrison.

    A capitalized L next to an "i" looks awfully like a "U" doesn't it?

    Uh? Uh? Uh?

And yes, that was the real reason/rhetoric Millar gave.

    Sigh.
