I am glad that at least Nolan had the decency to not sell out on the 3D Gimmick as far as Dark Knight Rises go

Meh. Maybe I'll just not see this at all. So tired of 3D.

I've seen a ton of movies in 3D and only two of them were actually worth seeing that way. Hugo and Avatar. Avatar only worth seeing for the 3D.

Oh and Coraline was neat in 3D. Claymation looks cool in 3D.

    The IMAX gimmick was enough.

I was going to say, he ain't exactly gimmick-free.

My problem is Avengers doesn't need the 3D gimmick to put butts in the seats, the build up to the movie alone should be enough to do that. Yet Hollywood just wanted to plaster 3D on it so that the people can waste money on a movie that isn't meant for 3D anyway.

Avatar is an exception as it was made for the 3D treatment.

Nobody's making you wear them for Avengers, either.

They WILL have the 2D version, I have no idea why people complain about this.

Complaining about 3D is like complaining about the temperature in the Antarctic. It's pretty simple to avoid if you don't want to experience it.

True but these 3D showings eat up space at the multiplexes. So now you're down 1 or 2 theaters that would've had 2D and that can sometimes make it harder to get a good 2D showing especially for very popular movies. I've safely avoided 3D almost entirely since Avatar, with a few exceptions. And in one of those instances it was because the 2D was playing at odd times.

    Oh reeeeeallllly?

... Apologies for that opening but in my experience, it's been very difficult to avoid. I couldn't see Thor in 2D because it was only available at 11:45am on a weekday. As for 3D, pretty much round the clock.

And it was at my 3D screening of Thor that I found out I'm unable to view 3D films properly. I saw Avatar and, looking back, had many more problems with the 3D effects in that than I should've but Thor was far worse. It was like I had blind spots in entire scenes. I couldn't see the titles of the books that Stellan Skarsgard's character was browsing in the library, I couldn't see Thor enter the pet store and practically the entire scene of Thor and Jane Foster chatting in her trailer might as well have not existed for all I could see of it. It ruined a great film for me, all because the movie theatre wanted to cash in on 3D and I didn't want to take a day off just to see a movie.

I echo other people's concerns about the 3D. I have no interest in it and don't care if people want to see it in 3D, but it is very annoying when theaters will only carry the 3D version. I had to travel to a theater much further than the one I normal go to because it was not offering the 2d version of Thor at all.

I can already tell there is a high probability of this happening with The Avengers.

Does anyone know if this was filmed in 3D or if it is being converted? I dig 3D when the film was meant to be that way from the start, but when they retroactively convert them, only the CGI looks good in 3D and everything else looks like cardboard cutouts moving around.

I'm pretty sure this is a converted one, and if so I might stick to the 2D version. Cap was way better in 2D, as was Thor.
