More men? I do love the direction this book is taking, but no one seems to complain when a full superhero team has one female on it, which is often the case.

Unless your the avenger they always have more than one or the x men. But one more thing is Marvel is more of a team company so that is why they have more women on the teams and DC is more of a solo company where their women hold their own solo books so i would not read to much into it.

Wonder Woman is definitely one of the best of the rebooted books. Easily MY favorite.

Marvel has several titles with solo male characters. Many get chance after chance despite low sales. Currently, they have no titles with female characters.

I also think that many of those female characters on teams play secondary roles compared to the male characters.

The Defenders, so far, has a sole female on the team. So does Uncanny X-Force.

I could go on and on. I'm sure those who disagree could as well. Of course, there are exceptions.

This isn't the thread to get into another discussion about gender/sex disparities in comics, but the entire "Wonder Woman only has women in her supporting cast, she needs men" reflects a double-standard in the industry.

I haven't criticized much in this run. Personally, I think it is pretty pitch-perfect. That statement, however, did leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Which is fine. I'm a friend to mouthwash.

Azzarello: Well, it's not just the relationship with Zeus now, it's the relationship with her mother as well; I'm giving her a family larger than just the Amazons. They're all women. I think she needed some -- I'm not going to say role models, but she needed some males. [Laughs] Because they aren't role models, that's for sure!

    I see.

Ugh. I'm loving what Mr. Azzarello is doing with the book, but ugh. This, and statements about the importance of having a 'father' seriously make me sadface.

I don't see exactly it's that much of a problem. Zeus is clearly going to be as much of a deadbeat dad as he is in classic mythology, and it seems to be more about what kind of stories Azzarello can tell with this change in place rather than Zeus having an overwhelming amount of influence on Diana like a standard father/daughter relationship. Introducing a male element doesn't have to drastically change the character, but it does open up some story opportunities that haven't been there, before.

I think it's still pretty bold of Azzarello to even make this move, though, because introducing a male element - usually a boyfriend or someone who's being set up for that particular role - often seems to attract negative vibes regardless of the character because of the apparent negative effect that they have on Diana. And this is much different but is clearly attracting as much attention, so I'm glad Azz seems to be the sort who doesn't backpedal.

My point is that DC is more of a solo company look at all the female they have and they are selling real well and i don't really think most of Marvel females play secondary character to the males and the is the New 52 give DC more time i,m sure they add more female to their team until then there is always BOP.

Why ugh? What's so bad about having a "father"? Azz never once said Diana ever stopped being who she is because she suddenly found out how she was born. Her nurturing remains the same and the way she was brought up remains the same... with many mothers and aunts. And fathers are "important". Even when they play little or no part in a child's life or the child is adopted. Heritage plays a huge part of who we are and Diana just found out she was not only an Amazon Princess, adored by her entire family...she is a real demi goddess. And it is kind of ironic...when Diana lived in pristine marble halls and seemed so perfect and flawless she came across many a time disconnected to everyman and woman, even how writers saw her. She might as well have been a goddess. But now she actually is half goddess nd we feel her more human than ever. Because what she is facing is such a human matter many of us deal with. Daddy issues and some very very dysfunctional family members. Yeah she could very well turn her back and ignore it but she can't and won't. That is never Diana. This is really brave of Azz. And the WW title did need more males, not only Steve Trevor, who frankly has not done that much in terms of impact.
