There's no place for my vote, which is "No, I plan to buy it in TPB". I wanted to buy it until I realized that buying it is actually a few bucks more expensive than buying the "Ultimate Collection" paperbacks, which I think look way cooler on the shelf and are easier to read. I also feel more comfortable letting someone borrow a paperback. That's what I'll be buying

I'll buy it. I hope they bring these out all the way to Death of Spider-Man, and include Marvel team up

The problem with these is it'll take 10 more volumes to round out the series and they haven't released a new one in almost two years. At best it'll take 10 years to finish off the Peter Parker era and worst case scenario is they don't publish anymore, while the omnibus line will most likely have a new volume every 12-18 months (as is the norm for omnibuses not based on the Masterworks line). Between the beginning of the series and the death of Peter Parker there is enough material for four or five omnibuses (think the most likely route is two more omnibuses collecting the next six OHCs to finish the Bagley run, then two smaller omnis collecting the post-Bagley run) and even released 18 months apart it would still be finished several years before the Ultimate Collections.

But if you're going to buy trades then I'd get the first three Ultimate Collections and buy the remaining regular trades pronto, as you never know when they'll go out of print and if/when Marvel will publish more UCs.

I hope the Omnibuses come out with less than 12 months between them.

I think it should be done like this:
    Vol 1 - Hardcovers 1-3
    Vol 2 - Hardcovers 4-5, Ultimate Marvel Team-Up
    Vol 3 - Hardcovers 6-9
    Vol 4 - Hardcovers 10-11
    Vol 5 - Hardcovers 12-13, Ultimate Fallout

I don't want UMTU in these books at all. Middling quality aside, its really something that belongs in its own OHC. Its not an actual continuing part of the story, its a companion to the story. I do think excepts from Ultimate Fallout should be in the last volume though.

Yeah that's the plan. I'm at least gonna buy the first ultimate collection. I haven't decided if I'll be collecting the whole series. I have the full Ulimate Comics: Spider-Man, because I really love it.. but for standard USM I may be happy with just the beginning and the end. We'll see. I'd have to buy the 3 Ultimate Collections and then the normal trades #7-#21. I have 22. Could get pricey. Might be worth it though just to have the full Ultimate Spider-Man collection. I'm gonna publicize my amazon wishlist this christmas I believe.

Also, I was wondering, is there a good chance they WILL release ALL of those omnibuses? If it's likely they are.. I'll break my paperback rule and get that because that would be one hell of a good collection

The only time Marvel holds back on releasing sequel volumes is when its older material tied to a movie release. For example, Amazing Spider-Man Vol 1 came out in 2007 for Spider-Man 3, and only now five years later are we getting Vol 2 for the reboot. But USM doesn't fit into that as its a more modern book and its also a book with a finite ending. So they will for sure finish it, the only question is how long it'll take. I can't see them taking more than two years to release a volume and if I had to guess they'll do a volume every year.

Marvel may have thrown a wrench into the machine though. Amazon lists a "Death of Spider-Man" omnibus due for release in November (meaning the book will be announced this month). They say its 600 pages and given the list of authors its most likely going to be a replacement for the 13th oversized hardcover and not part of this series. However, it really screws things up. Do we buy this book in November in case Marvel doesn't release an Ultimate Spider-Man Volume 5? Or do we wait and see and risk not getting the last part of the series in omnibus form? It could be they're playing it out so they release three more full sized omnibuses (collecting 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12) rather than have three full sized omnibuses and two smaller ones. But we have no way of knowing and its kinda frustrating.

I hope you're right that they'll finish the entire series in Omnibus form, because that would just be a really kickass shelf. It seems really odd that they'd put out a "Death of Spider-Man Omnibus when they haven't even made any other Ultimate Comics Spider-Man Omnibus.. But I already have all the Ultimate Comics Spider-man books and Fallout preordered. I think I'll be happy if I can just get the entire original Ultimate Spider-Man in omnibus form and keep my Ultimate Comics Spider-Man in TPB. They're easier to lend out that way anyway.

I doubt Marvel will just randomly leave us hanging and make random Omnibuses from a finite series and never complete it.. but stranger things have happened.

The Death of Spider-Man omnibus is most likely taking the place of the 13th hardcover, since it picks up right from where Volume 12 left off.

This makes me think that it will get recollected into another omnibus volume when the time comes.

Thanks. I couldn't find it on Amazon but I'll keep a look out for it.
