    Default Foreign Superteams

While I was rereading the more recent Nova series, I came across The Luminals, a Superhero team from the planet Xarth 3.

I thought about how cool it would be to see more alien superteams, when I realized how few superhero teams we see here on earth that Arn't based in the U.S of A.

Off the top of my head, I can only think of three foreign teams: The Canadian based Alpha Flight, the British Excalibur, and the Chinese People's Defense Force.

I forget what Russia calls their super team, but can anyone else think of any others? Alien or Earthly.

Russian's team have had so many names... and so many incarnations. Their Red Guardians have a ridiculously short shelf-life too. Most recently they were Winter Guard and had a very depressing and pessimistic miniseries.

I'd just like everyone to know that not only am I dropping Marvel, I'm dropping this forum considering I'm not even allowed to voice a negative opinion because a thread "isn't about me".

Germany had Schutz Heiliggruppe featuring Hauptmann Deutschland, Blitzkrieger and Zeitgeist/Every-Man.

There's a Russian team named Bogatyri that appeared a few times in the later stages of Avengers West Coast.

Prior to the People's Defense Force, China had China Force. Plus there was a dissident offshoot team, 3-Peace.

Apart from the ones already listed, off the top of my head you also have the European based Gemini, the Superheroes of Europe (S.H.E.), Ireland's Kinsmen, China's Eight Immortals, China Force, 3Peace, Hungary's People's Defense Force, Britain's Knights of Pendragon, Super-Soldiers, Genetix, Gene Dogs, MI13, France's les Heroes de Paris, the Microverse's Microns, the Wild Pack, Xandar's Champions, the Nova Corps, the (Captain Britain) Corps and Shadow Riders. It's not that there's none out there, it's that their appearances are very intermittent.

I used to think Alpha Flight and the Winter Guard were pretty cool, and I guess I still do. But I can't really take their designs (or those of from what I've seen of Big Hero Six and Triumph Division) too seriously. What these teams are like in general... would be the equivalent of comic book writers outside the US writing an American superhero team where you have a Cap America type character, followed by a character who's a humanoid American buffalo, a character whose costume and attributes reference the Statue of Liberty, a token Native American hero, and a character who can stomp the ground to create crevices and codename him/her 'Grand Canyon'.

It would be cool if Marvel created, for example, a Dutch superhero team where the powerset could be as diverse and balanced as the average Avengers or X-Men roster, without going for obvious stereotypes or references to the culture. Also, you see a lot of these foreign hero teams are affiliated with their national governments, but more tightly than, for example, the Avengers. They tend to be nationalistic/patriottic to greater or lesser extent, while the Avengers get to be more diverse in their political viewpoints. It's rare to find a foreign superhero team that isn't serving its government (i.e. isn't 'the national team'), but simply a bunch of metas that got together in a particular country. I also get the whole point of superheroes based in a certain country feeling a responsibility toward protecting the places that are their home, or close to their own home, but you can bet that if I led a superhero team, and there were an emergency in Germany, France, England, Romania etc. ... I'd get the team in our supersonic craft and go there.

Oh, and I'm going to beat stelok to it and say that the Schutzheiliggruppe would find a better name in 'Schutzengelgruppe' or even better, simply 'die Schutzengel'. I saw the caption somewhere say that it was supposed to be 'The League of Guardian Angels', 'Schutzheilige' is 'patron saint'. I wouldn't call my team the 'patron saints' if I started a superhero team XD.

See, now this sounds good: "dissident offshoot team". And 3-Peace would also rhyme quite nicely in Mandarin. San-An!

Bogatyri were like the Russian "Fantastic Four". They should come back. Morning Star at least.

This thread is opening my eyes to some interesting obscure hero teams I didn't know before. Some of these teams are looking real good.
