I suppose though if we expect a line wide relaunch at minimum marvel can do plenty of hype certainly done alot for defenders.

The three most likely choices for Avengers are probably Fraction, Loeb and Hickman, in no particular order.

    In terms of preference:
    Hickman > Fraction > Loeb

I can't see Waid, Brubaker, Parker, Gillen, Gage or Slott taking over the main Avengers title, as much as I would love it to happen. New Avengers or Assemble, perhaps, but for one reason or another I don't think any of them are likely choices.

Hickman already has 3 Books though as does Fraction which tilts odds towards Loeb. Although really having to chose between Loeb and Fraction is too horrible to contemplate.

I can see Fraction leaving one of the solos he writes in favor of becoming the writer of the company's top book. He has written Iron Man for a LONG time, maybe he already intended to leave anyway.
I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope that doesn't happen. Just as much as I hope Bendis doesn't move to the X-men franchise.

Or Marvel may actually drive all the remaining classic Avengers fans to suicide by bringing back Mark Millar to writing mainstream comics, thus effectively merging the 616 universe with the Ultimate.

    Peace

    Aarrrrgh, the horror!

Having said that, Millar > Bendis. At least Millar can pace a comic well

I would welcome a soft reboot, something along the lines of Heroes Return, which relaunched a number of titles to #1 but didn't erase any continuity. The Avengers line could use a tidy-up.

I would hate a hard Crisis-style reboot that altered everybody's backstory, powers, personality and/or costume.

Costume tweaks are inevitable the X-men could certainly use some new costumes, I am still annoyed Regenesis did not deliver on that front.

Agreed. Some costumes definitely need an upgrade.

Yeah I agree on keeping personalities, powers and most origins (some could change though personally I think the falcon needs a new one).

It'll probably be Fraction taking over. Though with multiple Avengers books it may be entirely possible that we get multiple Avengers writers.

Mr. Brubaker will probably stick with Cap and Winter Soldier...he's flat-out admitted that team books are not his strong point.

Hickman would probably be my preferred choice of those available, but I don't think his sales are on the same level as Loeb or Fraction.

Of those not mentioned yet: I'd like to see Christos Gage get a shot. I've liked pretty much everything I've read by the guy so far.

He wrote the Fantastic Four and I loved that run and he wrote the X-Men back in 1996 and 1997 as wel..he's always been a very strong writer and knows how to get a feel of the voices of characters. I would trust him implicitly if they gave him the ball to run with.

Hickman managed to make F4 popular enough to support two books. Not even Millar could make it.

True but they need him on the F4 to continue that and he has got the Ultimates so pretty busy.
