Three Avengers books, four likely writers - Hickman, Aaron, Waid and Fraction.

Any of those writers - even Fraction - would be a big step up from Bendis, IMO. And I'll be rapt if Hickman, Waid or Aaron gets the main Avengers title.

(Agreed on Joe Casey! Unfortunately, I don't think Marvel considers him a big enough name to give him a shot on Avengers.)
IMO fraction is not a step up. He wrote a bad uncanny xmen showing he cannot juggle a team and a boring event give him assemble

FRaction would kill the Avengers franchise. I think he's liked less than Bendis.

I'm no Fraction fan, but what I've read of his has been nowhere near as bad as Bendis. For starters, with Fraction on Avengers we wouldn't have to put up with all of Bendis's pet characters - Luke Cage, Spider-Woman, Quake, Maria Hill, Wolverine, Spider-Man, etc.

IMO fraction is worse. Bendis at least spreads focus. Fraction focused on Scott to the exclusion of all else. Bendis an argument can be made that he built the franchise for fraction no such case can be made

If it was me, I would like to see them go to a unified weekly title and go with the writers and artists by committee like what was done with Spider-man for a couple of years.

I'd make the book the spine of the Marvel Universe and maybe even go as far as have it be a bigger book with a lead story and a backup.

I liked how that worked out for the most part on Spider-man and I think the 'by committee' comic really would work out better on a team book like Avengers.

That said, they probably won't go that way, so if I get my vote on the main Avengers title (whatever one the big 3 are going to be the stars), I vote for Mark Waid getting the steering wheel.

    Default Post-Bendis Speculation

The hour is at hand. The DREADFUL Bendis days will soon be forgotten. Who will helm Earth Mightiest's after the bald menace leaves? Who do you WANT to helm the Avengers?

All signs point to Jonathan Hickman to do so... the man that revitalized the Fantastic Four. The man that made SHIELD completely messy. Is he worthy to the task? Would you prefer WHEDON, master of Avengers Movie? Speculate away!

    Hickman on Avengers? YES PLEASE!!

Wait, if he doesn't get Avengers, what would he be doing? He's going to be off of Ultimates and the FF titles by the end of this year. Is he maybe leaving Marvel?

YES! Who will step up and SAVE US from the horrible, horrible man who helped turn the Avengers into Marvel's #1 franchise and gave the book prominence it never had before.

Beat me to it. Bendis is only "dreadful" on the internet.

I think Hickman is a safe bet. Also would not be at all surprised to see Aaron get a book out of this. So yeah, I'll go with Hickman on Avengers and Aaron on New Avengers. I can't see Marvel giving one of their big Avengers books to someone who isn't an "architect" and Brubaker is clearly sick of team books after his run on Secret Avengers while Fraction's plate is more than full. Hickman, meanwhile, has likely dropped Ultimates for Avengers, while Aaron is writing less than half the titles he was last year.

Last he commented, he was in contract negotiations with Marvel and said he was 90% sure he'd reup exclusively with Marvel. He's being taken off, and is taking himself off, all these books so that he can clear his schedule for something big from Marvel. There is still a small chance it won't happen, but I'd say it's pretty safe to say that it will, especially as I don't think DC is really knocking down his doors or anything (they should be, I just don't think that they are).

He's also writing two ongoings from Image, plus writing and drawing one other creator owned thing, so I think he has to lessen his load by necessity. I wouldn't expect to see him on anything more than one or two ongoing series from Marvel in the future, maybe one ongoing and one occasional mini series.

And if he's doing anything at Marvel, it has to be the Avengers, especially since he's supposed to be playing with a few cosmic things coming up (kree, shiar, skrulls, etc). Then again I guess there is a chance that he and Slott are switching? He goes on Amazing, Slott on Fantastic Four? I suspect Spider Man would be a 'dream job' for most anyone, even moreso than the Avengers (which has historically not been as popular).

I'm guess that the days of an Avengers 'czar' are over, and I think that's a good thing. Bendis had too much control over the line and homogenized it, as Johns is doing over on GL. I'm excited to see Hickman on Avengers, Parker on Dark Avengers, Aaron on New Avengers, and Waid on Avengers Assemble (all hypothetical save for Parker on Dark).

Please, Sweet Zombie Jesus, make this happen.

Bendis has had a great run, but I think it's time to move past Osborne, Hydra, and the adventures of Luke "Where's My Baby?" Cage.
