Default Creative changes? Relaunch? What's next for the the Avengers?

Brian Michael Bendis has recently announced he's leaving the Avengers very soon. So what's next for Marvel's flagship team? Where do they go from here. What should be the direction the next creative team takes?

The first thing I'd like for the incoming creative team to do is return to a core seven heroes. Make the book more manageable.

Second, less Avengers going batshit crazy or doing unethical things. That phase should be over.

Third, I would like them to address some of the plots that Bendis has if he doesn't clear them up before he leaves. Bendis' ideas weren't the problem but his execution wasn't always on point.

Default Bendis Leaving Avengers & End Of AvX at same time = Avengers Relaunch?

It seesm that Bendis leaving the various Avengers books (after the first arc on Avengers Assemble) and the end of AvX event all seem to be happening at the same time.

Do you think this will lead to a Regenesis style relaunch. Or maybe a total relaunch of the Avengers franchise.

Is there really any point to Avengers Assemble carrying on once the film is out and Bendis is done. Surely this series is just a mini anyhow.

The other two will have run about 30 issues by then which makes them well overdue for a new number 1.

Im putting my money on Avenging X-Men though.

    Movie = Relaunch

I still have reservations about a universal relaunch, but if the Phoenix Force is involved, it's entirely possible.

    I'm kinda shocked.
I would have expect him to stay on New Avengers at least.

    Relaunch = very possible
    Reboot = hopefully not
I'd just like everyone to know that not only am I dropping Marvel, I'm dropping this forum considering I'm not even allowed to voice a negative opinion because a thread "isn't about me".

    I'm more in this camp.

I'm still not all in on a reboot, but a creative shuffle is right up my alley.
Why aren't you reading Winter Soldier? You should be!

Wait. I haven't been on the boards a lot lately but is Bendis really leaving the Avengers? What did this happen?
    Bra'tac: Now we die.
    O'Neill: Well, that's a bad plan.

O'Neill: I've spent my whole life sticking it to the man.
Jackson: Well now you will be the man.
    O'Neill: I don't think I can be the man.

Hickman on The Avengers (just cancel the Ultimates and the whole Ultimate line already) and roll the New Avengers characters into both that book and Remender's Secret Avengers book.

    The Avengers
    Captain America
    Iron Man
    Spider-man
    Ms. Marvel
    Red Hulk
    Vision
    Storm
    Captain Britain
    Vision

    Secret Avengers
    Hawkeye
    Black Widow
    Luke Cage
    Wolverine
    Spider-woman
    Daredevil
    Venom
    Ant Man (O'Grady)
    Beast

Or something like that... The characters can rotate around some too.

Put A-list artists on both books and "bam". Instant relaunch. Oh, and just leave Avengers Academy alone I suppose.

I think the scariest situations to come out of this would be that A) Avengers are a group within SHIELD or B) Loeb or Fraction writing (and Fraction can be good).

This is super excellent news. My main issue with Bendis is just that I don't feel like I get my money worth of out of his work. There's several reasons why, dialog, slow plotting, etc., but it all comes down to whether I want to spend my money on something I know he wrote.

The one thing I will miss being brought to the Avengers franchise is his great ideas. As poorly executed as they get, he sure has a brilliant mind for stories. He just can't tell them well, especially in a setting like the Avengers. But I keep thinking Hickman because of his Ultimates run, and I think he'd bring some great stuff to the table too.

The most important thing I feel coming out of this is that it reinvigorates two brands: The Avengers and Brian Bendis. Brands that were fresh and exciting when first brought aboard, but stalled out towards the middle and crashed awfully towards the end. Knowing the fact that Bendis isn't going to be shoving shit down my throat for trying to be a faithful reader of my favorite comic and heroes gives me the will power to try him out on his next franchise. Now that Avengers will be minty-fresh again, I'll have no issue wasting money on an issue or two to see if he can capture my attention wherever he winds up. Because I know at least his ideas will be bold, even if he failed so horribly on the Avengers.

I honestly think 2 books would be a perfect way to go— but with the core book essentially returning to a paired-down team and maybe a few New Avengers., and Secret Avengers being not too different from where it is now...

Avengers/Avengers Assemble (whatever you call it)

    Captain America
    Iron Man
    Thor
    Hulk
    Songbird
    Spider-man
    Cage

    Secret Avengers

    Captain Britain
    Hawkeye
    Black Widow
    Valkryie
    Beast
    Black Panther
    Ant Man

A return to legacy numbering after the movie comes out. They should be coming close to issue 650 iirc.

In this uncertain market, I feel like whoever takes over the Avengers franchise will be one of their popular, commercially successful writers. I feel like any of the writers of the 2012 event are top contenders.

But maybe Marvel will surprise and pick an up-and-coming. Or maybe Bendis will be allowed to pick his replacement? All I know is the next guy will have big shoes to fill.
