I get where you're coming from. (I've done the same thing before, and you were the one to call me out when I started acting like a jerk about it. Thanks for that)
While I may not agree with you about The Transformation of J.H. O'Donnell, I agree about The Pickens County Horror. And I know if The Devil's Engine doesn't end with with some huge revelation about Abe (or anything really), then I'm going to be pretty unsatisfied too. So, yeah, it happens from time to time.
But these stories have been close to huge successes too (I loved The Long Death and Exorcism (that story was amazingingly good)), so I'm inclined to be a bit lenient for a little while at least. I'm hoping Pickens pays off in spades in the future. It felt more like a prologue than an actual story to me, and if the miniseries that eventually picks up those plot threads is good, I know all my qualms will easily be forgotten.
Maybe, but I hope you don't fall silent. The fandom needs negative opinions too. I myself never want to be a fan that's easily satisfied. I'm very demanding of the things I love, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
I may not agree with your opinion of The Transformation of J.H. O'Donnell, but your opinion is still valid, and I find it an interesting one to read. I enjoy discussing it. But discussing a negative opinion is always tough when you have to be careful not to rain on other people's parade.
Interesting that you mention the whole "wait for the trade" thing though, since I've been considering doing that myself a lot lately. I'm already waiting for Baltimore and the next batch of Lobster Johnson shorts (or at least, that's the plan... when Tonči Zonjić's involved my willpower is practically non-existent), but at the moment B.P.R.D.'s stories aren't coming in satisfying enough chunks (keep in mind this is coming from someone that didn't grow up with issues at all. Most issues of anything seem this way to me). I'd like to revert back to trade waiting, but the only thing that's stopping me is losing the interaction with other fans on the board. Maybe I'll do a trial of it for Return of the Master, but probably not. I enjoy this too much.
