Sorry to bring the topic back to Knights of Pendragon but I've just finished reading volume 2. I actually quite liked. (Barring of course Union Jack's bulky re-design and the ridiculous bike-things they drove around in.) It was a nice blend of the original KoP series and the Marvel UK direction of the time. I'm happy that I bought it.

How rude! The Captain Britain Corps could easily take care of it. Captain Britain, Lady Briton, Ultimate Captain Britain, Caledonia and Lionheart are a match for anyone. (I doubt that'll be the line-up but I still like it.)

    Bring back Caledonia!!

Glad you enjoyed volume 2, and don't feel you've wasted your money, for myself I never *could* get over U.J's re-design or the bike things but don't forget you need to get MYS-TECH WARS now, the mini ties into KOTP volume 2 after all 9with issue #10 IIrc).

I'm pleased to say I've got #s 11-13 of volume 1 myself now, so the gaps are being filled in!

As to Caledonia, ONLY bring her back if you can make sense of her, Claremont certainly didn't (he also altered her origin a coupe of times, hoping people wouldn't notice). Personally, I was never a fan of hers but the reason for that lies partly at Claremonts door because he never DID anything with her.

    Cheers.

I managed to ignore Union Jack's re-design somehow. Perhaps on second reading I'll notice it a lot more.

Happily, I've already got Mys-Tech Wars and the other tie-in issues/series. It was obvious to see that Marvel UK's big four were Dark Angel, Death's Head II, Knights of Pendragon and the Warheads. I've enjoyed every minute of reading them all.

Glad you got the issues you needed. The original KoP series was clearly the best, even to me.

More Scottish characters. More WELSH characters for that matter.

But then I am part Scottish and part Welsh.

Always wanted to read this run but always put it to the side and I hear it's been nominated or won a Hugo.

now I've heard that the trades are out of print and if so, is it expensive to get it from sellers?

Very true. Dai Thomas, Pixie, Red Dragon (x3), Stinger, Captain Cymru and Damian Tryp is a good start. But I'm struggling to think of any more after that.

It shouldn't be. You should be able to find them online for good prices.

It's the same in the UK. Vampire Nation seems to be the most expensive. I got my copy second hand from ebay for a good price. It's a great series that you can read over and over again though.

It doesn't appear to be out of print, yet. I know that Marvel can be pretty poor at keeping their back catalogue of trades IN print. But they appear to be still be available on amazon.

And yes, it was nominated for a Hugo. I believe it lost out to Neil Gaiman's 'Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader'. After Batman RIP. But it was a contender. Rightly so, also.

Tryp was a character I found greatly interesting. We don't know for certain what nationality he is, but 14th century Wales was mentioned...

The whole Killcrop concept appears to have been left behind, never returned to in X-Factor. A great shame in my opinion. It was something which I felt was worth exploring. Nightcrawler was probably a killcrop. As would MI13's very own Meggan be, also.

We do know for certain - we had a flashback to when he was a young kid in 1347 AD, learning his mother died in childbirth and that he grew up with his father in South Wales. So, barring twist reveals that he was born somewhere else, he's Welsh.

Owein Llewellyn (Gog) of the Super-Soldiers. Daffyd ap Iowerth of the Dragon Circle. Presumably, based on his name, the late Gafael, who guarded the bridge of Camelot in Otherworld prior to being slain by the giant trolls Gog and Maegog, was Welsh. And the mentioned, but not seen and now dead, Corps member, Captain Wales. Beyond that, I don't think there are any other confirmed Welsh superhumans, though a few British ones whose birthplaces are not yet revealed might conceivably turn out to be Welsh.

I've got a real want to go back and re-read that period of X-Factor, now. Tryp was a character I thought had a lot of potential, but that whole story arc just seemed to stop dead. I know that the Killcrop idea wasn't particularly appreciated over on the X-Men forums here (At least at the time) but I'd certainly be interested in what implication it had for Meggan.

For those who never read those issues, PAD's concept was that a mutant born with powers active from birth (as opposed to those powers developing during puberty) was a 'Killcrop'. There was a suggestion that these individuals were actually a different species to other mutants.

Unfortunately, there hasn't been much in terms of follow up on this storyline. But, as we know, Meggan could probably be included in that bracket. Her powers certainly activated as a baby, with her body spontaneously growing fur.
