i like the concept of modernized crime story inspired by splastic surgery......thats kinda crafty.....

the book doesn't feel like 'detective comics' to me...yet.......i do like the dark atmosphere of this title

i love the art....it is the best part of this title....

i really dislike charlotte......i cannot wait until she is forgotten in the massive shadow of bruce's DCNu string of love interests to help move the story arc....

hmmmm...i dunno i will try to keep purchasing this title BUT i am finding it really hard to do...

It's interesting that he mentioned hard-boiled, noir-ish stuff, because that's the vibe I got while reading issues 1-3. It was like reading about Mike Hammer in a batsuit. It's not a take I was expecting but one I can appreciate.

I'm dropping Detective at the end of the Dollmaker arc, but I think I'll check back on it a few more issues down the road to see if Daniel hits a storytelling stride. In the meantime, I'm checking out other Bat books.

I used to hate Daniel's writing. I don't know if I've just become used to it or gotten used to it or whatever, but I don't really care about it one way or another any more - it's just blah. A great shame, considering how thoroughly Scott Snyder is knocking it out of the park every month over on Batman.

I was underwhelmed by Daniel's stories prior to this launch, but I have been pleasantly surprised by what he's done here. Snyder is eclipsing everyone right now by what he's doing on Batman, but I would say that Daniel and Tomasi/Gleason have been telling some real solid stories in their books.

Just don't get me started on Finch/Jenkins.

I agree that Daniel's stuff has been good since the relaunch (though I didn't dislike his work prior to that, either). He is suffering some, I think, in comparison to what Synder is doing in Batman.

I guess I am missing something. I am relatively new to comics and just started reading Batman prior to the relaunch. I don't see why Snyder's work on Batman is blowing everything out of the water. Just looking for another perspective. Thanks!

For me, Synder just seems to have a better feel for the totality of Batman's world. He's managing to blend themes of family, detective skills, noir, and superheroic action together about as well as anyone I have ever seen.

I'd enjoy this more if he had a co-writer...Daniels just doesn't seem to have the right...flow for me.

Agreed, though I am tempted to jump on with the next arc. I like the Penguin and the idea of the Iceberg Lounge being on an actual iceberg sounds pretty awesome.

I'll stick with it for at least another arc. But honestly, Snyder's work is the best bat-stuff I've read for quite some time.

Might mean we're going to be seeing Mr. Freeze again sometime soon, too.

It's strange Detective comics seems to be the Batbook that the non harcore more casual fans love. While the hardcore internet fans hate it or have mixed feelings.

Why do you think that's strange?
