Well I met her brother....she's now going down the levels in the lab.

I realized something reading this chapter (30).

It started out as a fun little manga about some buddies at a new school. They hang out with some upperclassmen. Fight the invincible students.

Then all of a sudden they are in a giant underground lab fighting lab experiments.

This series has pulled a damn tenjou tenge on me.

Why he keeps picking up ridiculous arguments and then try to defend them, I will never know.

    Kumagawa's showed up.

I like how his text is all different and stuff.

He just tried to stick it to the 12 year old - 42 year old. That he's in love with.

Medaka's siblings are pretty interesting. I have to admit if her sister was really serious about how much of a burden a pretty mouth is then all she had to do was face-first-fight a wall.

Problem solved without all those silly bandages.

Well she'd need them at first.

    You know what I mean.

edit: AMG Kumagawa is going to fight......the guy I could cosplay as. I always sympathize with those characters the most.....I'm worried.

He was the one of Ranma's regular antagonists that I never ever liked.

In his defense, he came across fairly well when he tried to teach Akane to swim. Completely insane, certainly, but well meaning.

Not so much the other bajillion times he did anything, though.

You should get used to that. This manga does that kind of thing a lot.

Ranma: So that means... that you've been planning this absurd farce for ten years, you maniac!?

    Ah, the classics.

It is so very weird to me, the way these things go.

I'm getting to the parts where the manga ......one sec...
There's an awful lot of commentary in the series about manga as a medium works and the conventions at play. It's sort of an ironic self-awareness if you will.
    that stuff comes up.

I'm going to use the "we need to train for the big tournament" trope that came up. When they went to train the bad guys attacked them mid training with comments about "this not being a manga, this is real life."

I read that and all I see is some characters that have their shit together enough to know that you shouldn't let the other team power up.

I never read into as commentary on manga and the conventions therein, it was just a good strat.

And that is what's weird, funny weird I mean, about all this. Years of being made to analyze and pick apart text has pretty much turned off the part of my brain that analyzes text unless I'm actively doing it.

But I take it that this kinda subversion and commentary stays for the duration.

side note: JoJo has been side tracked....the site has them fighting the death 13 stand in the dream world....then they are on a boat with a genie.

Unless something strange happened I think they left a few pages out.

edit: I remember back in the 90's taking my Ranma manga to high school to read because I was / am a nerd. Oh lordy the reactions to female Ranma running around topless.

Kids those days......barely any better then ones we have now.

You don't read that as commentary because it hasn't gone full meta yet. Trust me, when it goes full meta you literally can't miss it.

    /thread

Man....during my excursions around Japan I didn't get a cool nickname like that....I got "Jasmine" because an adorable little girl named Akane ( yes after Tendo her dad was a huge manga nerd I got to see his reading room and DAMN ) couldn't say "Justin" correctly.

And my girlfriends family called me "gaijin otaku" because while we were watching a movie a guy had to hold his breath to swim out of a cave so I held my breath as well to see if I could do it. ( I could )

Well her mother about died laughing.

    .....Good times.... Back to reading.

So I'm entirely caught up, including reading the new issue of the "shitty love manga" that it's become.

    I regret doing so.

At least TenTen stayed interesting right up until the author quit making it. This is just.......boring now.

Really everyone talking about how "meta" this crap gets is just......

So forums were filled with discussion over who the main character is? That's amazing because even someone that is as randomly stupid as I am never had problems with main character issues.

Normal manga: We beat you in a fight so now you're my friend!
Meta / this manga: We beat you in a fight so now you're my friend!

normal manga: I'm the one that will make people happy!
meta / this manga: I'm the one that will make people happy!

Ah, the Animesuki forums were hilarious with this, not intentionally though.
