    Default Medaka Box

Just started this one....I finished the first issue and it's......I get the feeling I'm going to like it if I let it grow on me.....but I'm still hesitant about giving it that chance.

    Medaka is.....annoying.

Zenkichi is.....why I want to give it a try.

Eh, anyone know anything about this one?

    Well, I should warn you:

It will genre shift into a battle manga after a few arcs.

Then genre shifts into a half meta manga.

    Then it goes full meta.

    And Hipster is interesting.

This. Though I'd also add in Shiranui Hansode is also very interesting, though often way out of focus. Whenever she does get the spotlight on her, though...

Also, don't really expect the feats to be 100% consistent or even remotely logical. It's more important and fun for it to focus instead on the themes its trying to deconstruct instead.

Medaka's little flash step spam in the kendo lounge kinda hinted at that.

Then genre shifts into a half meta manga.
    So it's like half manga...half....math?

    Then it goes full meta.
Phorical? Physical? What are you trying to say?

Look man, it's late, I'm not thinking straight. I think you are just messin' with me now.

Is this because of that joke about skinning and wearing you as my "haz-mat suit?"

    My bad on that one.

Shiranui seems like an entirely less annoying C-ko from the old Project A-ko stuff.

I'm looking forward to meeting this manga's troll character.

Maybe someone that can give Gin* a run for his money.

He means "Meta," in the sense of "metatextual,"

There's an awful lot of commentary in the series about manga as a medium works and the conventions at play. It's sort of an ironic self-awareness if you will.

The art is good, the characters are pretty interesting, the plot is also pretty interesting. There's a certain amount of stuff that I found a little "Wut?!" but I think it's a solid series.

    You won't regret reading it.

Frankly, I think it's one of the most brilliant manga I've ever come across, and it just keeps getting better.

    That.

And Hipster is a character. He has been introduced recently, so you won't come across him for a while.

It's worth reading at least until Kumagawa shows up. Then the manga undergoes it's latest genre shift and you can decide if you want to quit it or not.

I personally don't care for the whole "main character/side characters" arguments that have popped up everywhere in it.

It worked for Kumagawa because he's crazy, but now it's just ridiculous.

What I love about is that for the longest time, there were like a hundred threads on the manga site going: "Who's the real main character, Medaka or Zenkichi?" And people would argue about it and say Medaka is obviously the main character but Zenkichi is more interesting but Medaka does all the major asskicking but Zenkichi is the guy we actually relate to, etc, etc ,etc.

And then all of a sudden the author incorporates that into the story and makes it a plot point. That's why I think its brilliant. They simply must have planned that somehow.

Anyway, since the thread was for Transient to know if he was going to read it or not, we might want to stop the spoilers.

Such a nice fellow. I do appreciate the spoiler warnings but that's part of my problem. From stuff like the motivational picture thread I've seen some later issue spoilers but I have absolutely no context for them.

I'm going to give it a try, hell it seems like I'll have reason to come back here and post my little OMG moments as I read.

But I am still curious about one thing, is the all fiction dude the dude that everyone is all dude about?
