    Default Marvel and DC

What would you guys say are the biggest differences between the two? Differences in style and tone? Are there still divided "camps" out there, where fans of Marvel doesn't read DC stuff and vice versa?

The biggest difference is the obvious - $3.99 vs $2.99.

Thats also become the dividing line for many. I grew up a Marvel zombie. I'd like to still be a Marvel zombie. But I refuse to be when I can buy four DC books for the price of three Marvel ones.

I'm more of a Marvel guy myself, but was thinking of ordering some Batman HC's. It MIGHT very well be the Swedish import system or something, but I got the impression that the DC hardcovers were more expensive than those by Marvel. Is that something the rest of the international crowd here knows anything about?

Disagree. For me personally, if price were that much of a factor and I REALLY wanted to read Captain America, I would save 3 dollars every month and when the TPB came out I would wait another month then buy the Captain America TPB and read it and enjoy it all the same...Instead of buying an Aquaman monthly for 1 dollar less per month just to have something in my hands. In the big picture 12 dollars per year is an absurd gripe if its a title that really delivers the goods...unless your paying for an Avengers title where nothing happens except 3 deaths, Spiderman talking like a meth addict and various pizza parties.

DC publishes more really high-end books liek th Absolute editions, I haven't noticed much difference between the prices of their standard hard covers.

If you've haven't already read them: Batman Year One; The Killing joke; Dark Knight Returns and Batman: Long Halloween are all definitely well worth reading.

In terms of general collections of story arcs and such DC's trades & hardcovers are cheapers and tend to include more issues than Marvels.

Actually DC's hardcovers and tpb are generally cheaper than Marvel's as well.

Well, thats saying if you have completely no interest in any DC heroes, perhaps its better to stick to marvel. But say if you're deciding, superman, batman, flash, green lantern and other the other hand captain america, thor, iron man, if both co. heroes sound good to you, for a generic reader, he will most likely go for DC bcos its cheaper.

DC is generally cheaper and they have more high profile female superheroes.

Those are general facts. When it comes to personal taste, I feel that the MU is a little edgier than the DCU and that they're very strong on team books, which I like, while DC does solo books better.

    I mostly read Marvel.

Comics wise- Marvel is more pricey ,in my opinon not has compelling or long enough stories than DC.
Entertainment wise like movies and etc. Marvel seems to do a better overall job.

Dark Knight Strikes Again, the sequel, is a much weaker book than Dark Knight Returns. Read ti by all means but absolutely read The Killing Joke and Year One first.
