This is a thread dedicated to the one TRUE love of Spider-Man, and how awesome she is. They just don't make characters like her anymore!
Who here is with me for bringing Gwen back! As Peter would say:
"I miss you Gwendy!" what's a "Gwendy"?

Anyone except Bryce Dallas Howard should have played her in Spider-Man 3.
I went for 'voting in polls is fun' because none of the other options are right for me. I loved Gwen, and I thought that she and Pete were great for each other. However, I don't think she should or will be brought back.

Meh. I just don't see it happening. I'm not one of those people who thinks that her return would negate the quality of The Night Gwen Stacy Died, but I really don't see what it would help.
I did like Gwen when she was alive. (Well, reading the back issues anyway. She was already dead by the time I was born.) I think she was a great character who grew up a lot in the 90 issues she existed in. However, I do think that the very best stories about Gwen are the ones that deal with her death. She died as an innocent and as a direct result of Peter's being Spider-Man. It's tragic and beautiful. Anyway, best Gwen stories out there:
The Night Gwen Stacy Died - ASM # 121 - Nuff said? Gerry Conway's magnum opus.
The Day She Died - Marvels # 4 - A touching story about how a civilian observer, Phil Sheldon, met Gwen and the impact she made on him before dying. Beautiful artwork by Alex Ross too.
Spider-Man: Blue - A heartfelt mini-series exploring Pete's thoughts and memories of Gwen.
I Remember Gwen - ASM # 365 - Mary Jane remembers Gwen and the jealousy she felt towards her. Somewhat obscure, but a very touching story.
Sins Past - ASM # 509-514 - Peter's memories of Gwen get turned on their ear by the revelation that she bore children with her eventual killer. Great dialogue by JMS explores Pete and MJ dealing with their roles in this revelation.
There have also been countless powerful references to Gwen, mostly dealing with her status as a martyr. This happened most recently in ASM # 655 during Marcos Martin's haunting dream sequence of all the lives the Spider-Man has cost. I just don't see the point of staging a resurrection for Gwen when she is such a rich character as is.

Gwen Stacy is awesome.![]()
I think it's hard to overcome the story of her death because it's shaped things. Not just for Spider-Man but for comics as a whole.
That being said, I'd be totally down for a story about her resurrection if it were well-written. Bucky's return shows that you can't be afraid of such stories. I just don't think it's actually going to happen. There has to be a better reason to bring Gwen back than "it would make Peter's life even more uncomfortable."
The monster saved them all. And in their fear, they betrayed him. As they always have. As they always will.

We need Gwen back!!!!!!!
Nightcrawler, Jean Grey, Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker, Professor X, Mar-Vell, Richard Rider- Bring Them Back!!!
might as well, with all the other characters who came back.. heh.. at least the ultimate world still has her..
I went for "voting in polls is fun" because it IS!![]()
Also, there's the fact that none of the other options work for me. Gwen was a good character in her time, but it is not her time her time has passed but there are some good stories which I still enjoy.
Cheers.
James.
Any Dream worth Having Is A Dream worth Fighting For.
This my problem with Gwen all those great story are many focused on her death and manly in retrospect. I sat down and recently read alot of my essentials that I haven't read yet. Only to find that alot of Gwen's character moments weren't all that great. The only great moment that I remember her having was yelling at Aunt May who would stop worrying about Peter even though he had a job and was a college student. Under Lee/Ditko Gwen had a lot more personality, but that was mainly in the art. She was mainly being very bitchy at Peter for ignoring her and everyone around him because he was so worried about his Aunt May. But like any misunderstanding she never bothered to ask Peter what was wrong with him she just kept being a bitch. Classic Stan Lee writing of young women. Once Romita comes on fulltime at the artist Mary Jane comes into the picture and is such a breath of fresh air. She isn't judgmental towards Peter or constantly yelling at him for ignoring her. Because you know what she's a free agent who isn't tied down by no man. PREACH IT SISTER!!! Only downside is that Mary Jane talks like she high on bathe salt.
Good Example of Classic Stan Lee writing of young women.
After that you can really tell that Lee/Romita were really trying to not leave Gwen out by giving her Mary Jane hair style. Which is really weird.
Overall Gwen Stacy is this to me. It's kinda like your grandfather telling you about all these wonderful classic movies from the 30's and 40's only to sit down and watch themselves and realizes they weren't all that great.
