To me personally?

Which is why I wanted to discuss it.

It did run thru the rudiment of his origin (ex hood, got framed, buddy took his girl and got her killed while he was in jail, experiment then freedom) really quickly.

It didn't really add anything new.

Striker was a dope dealer who was armed with gimmicked swichblades in the original stories.

I'm assuming that was one of the thing that Hannibal may have been objecting to: doing a blaxpoltation pastiche in 2011 without any update.

The other point is similar to the complaints that some Black Panther fans have about the character they(I also) like: Cage isn't really all that impressive in the one book that he appears in.

Cage isn't the strongest, or the smartest or even the most inspirational guy in the group that he allegedly runs (which is not the fault of the writer of the one shot in any event).

So Hannibal seems to have found this comic's celebration of that state of affairs offputting.

Where is this Hannibal post you speak of I want to read it.

The only time they've tried that crap and it was actually entertain was during Pak's War Machine run.

Usually they main these characters and it's just for shock value or to give the artist something different to draw. With War Machine that's how it started too, he was just disfigured for no apparent reason. Pak came along and turned it into something that was bad ass.

Yeah that series was pretty damn good. I was surprised it got canceled.

Lots of talk about feminine and masculine portrayals of queer characters, but it doesn't have to be either/or. Lafeyette from True Blood is popular, and the fact that he can be as feminine as he can be masculine is probably a contributing factor. He can wear makeup, and still whoop some ass when his buttons are pushed. I'm not sure if that can be communicated as easily in comics, but there's something to be said for making gay(or any other minority really) characters dynamic instead of simply playing to a type. Plenty of straight men like girly things, and plenty of straight women aren't soft or especially feminine.

That's the reason why I like him so much: the complexity.

I think you're also really spot-on in your post.

Though I wanted to add an addendum to my earlier posts and say the reason why I brought up the perceived feminine traits and how they're associated with flamboyancy is because people tend to conflate the two (occurrent or not) and that may play a part in Miguel Jose's acceptance.

I should add that while Hannibal can be spot-on at times, he's also rubbed a lot of people the wrong way at times with his reviews.

I very rarely pull an Avengers book. I do plan to get Avengers 18 , when Panther joins...its in my pull.

It added the old man, but the Origins books don't seem to be much into doing much heavy-handed retconning. OK, maybe a little more in the Ant-Man Wasp one, with Hank and Jan having met (I forget now, did it have them dating?) before her dad was killed. But even that, relatively minor touch.

And then you get into other problems. Obviously, the first thing you'd want to change about historic Cage is the costume. But then, what do you say it was?

Sometimes it seems as if writers find these characters "boring" and maim them in some way so that they can give them "Cool" cybernetic enhancments.

Off the top of my head:

Blade
War Machine
Steel
Bishop
Mal Duncan
Hammer (from six pack)

I don't think Hammer counts, since he was created that way. That was the whole point of the character: He blamed Cable for getting him crippled.

Man I KNEW this was gonna happen. I think theyre gonna release these cancellings as a slow burn. Someone said in this very thread how unfair it was to cancel X-23 and not Daken lol.

They prolly canceled them all at the same time but didnt want to release the news all at once. I wonder what else is up?

Yeah alot of these books didnt have a huge following so if it aint a favorite book most people will yawn over these books. Unfortunately/

They scary part of all this: if Marvel could not get a half Azn bisexual charismatic sword/knifewielding killer type to sell to the fans/retailers there is pretty much nothing that will sell now.

Daken is like, four niche markets at once.

And the book STILL tanked.

The market is UTTERLY fucked.

Maybe this is a good thing they will be abole to pull back and regroup and make their current ongoings better. I always had a feeling that Marvel floods the market with product.
