CBR Card League Final Update
Shocking Techno Girl has defeated Astral Scythe Gecko 2-1!
Mr. Puffin Rabbit and Wombat Janitor have forfeited.... A shame really
So our CBR Card Champion is....
Shocking Techno Girl!!!
Congrats STG, it's really a shame that the card league went out the way it did...The card league was built on and depended on self starting responsibilty, well it did not turn out that way, still we had a good run. STG I will PM you on the prize. Thanks to all who participated.
Peace and blessings to all
Mason

CARD LEAGUE: EPILOGUE
Well shucks. I actually saw this last night, but decided not to post until I got some sleep.
It is a shame that things didn't pan out the way we planned... It was a great idea, and Mason did a excellent job getting it all organized and running things, and much praise is due for the work she put in. There were a lot of great matches and discussion that came out of the experience and it definitely amped up the level of play for many players.
I believe the length of the League was the primary factor for the onset of fatigue in many players, myself included. Continuing through the summer-time when many people are on vacation and what-not also leads to people wandering off simply because they have lots of other stuff going on and irregular schedules that come with the longer light-hours.
As far as Wombat and my match go, I think we both dropped the ball in getting in touch. He messaged me mid-week, and I got back to him late Thursday thinking that we'd be able to get the match in no problem since we both tend to be online late... forgetting how exhausted I was from teaching all week! He had said he could play anytime but Friday afternoon, so I spent all Friday close to my computer hoping to get the match in, but between differing time zones and poor communication in this instance, we missed the deadline. I was waiting up for a while (BB can attest to that), but again was exhausted, so I went to read and I think narrowly missed Wombat's PM back to me. I should have checked back earlier, but Mason had already posted the final decision by the time I did.
I guess my mind was thinking that Wombat and I still had time to play since he's in a more Western time zone than my EST, and thus the day wasn't over, but it seems if one player's day is over, they forfeit and in turn the opponent forfeits... Perhaps I should have asked for clarification on that.
If there were the opportunity, I would have forfeited to Wombat since I dropped the ball (more) than he did so that there could be a match for the Finals, but it's obviously too late now, as we all should have taken Mason's rules more to heart when she said there were no extensions and the time limits of the matches.
It is a shame it ended the way it did, but hopefully we all had some fun along the way! I certainly did and there were some amazing moments in the games I personally both won and lost. You'll see a whole bunch of videos posted from me soon with those last matches (I was withholding them so as to protect some of my own secrets for the end of the League)!
I also want to say congratulations to Shocking Techno Girl! Although I know she would have liked to have a final showdown with whoever the champion of our match was, either Wombat or I would have had a tough time beating her -- she is a strong competitor that is for sure! And c'mon she took down the guy with the best record in the League in Astral Scythe Gecko! So it is certainly deserved, even if it didn't quite have the ending it should have on our end.
Finally, I want to say thank you to Tyrannical Mason for hosting this tournament -- I mean -- LEAGUE (;P) here in the Card Discussion Thread!
It's been a lot of fun and we've had some great times with it, and thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for all your hard work, patience, and generosity in running the crazy many-toothed beast that it was. It was by no means an easy task, and I hope everyone understands and appreciates your hard work.
And thank you to all who participated throughout the League -- you have not been forgotten. I will be getting little prizes to each and every one of you just for participating, as promised!
A CHATTIER, CARD-IER TOMORROW
Now moving forward -- I want to get back to doing something that the Card League prevented us from doing: Let's TALK about our awesome Decks!!! Although I loved the Card League, I feel like it kept a lot of people tight-lipped regarding the actual use and implementation of their cards, so let's get on with it!
What are your most-winning strategies?
What are your favorite cards?!
What are the awesome combos of cards that you just love?
What deck did you use to kick my butt?!
I'll start off by saying -- or probably reiterating -- how much I love the combination of Endless Thirst with Aura Drain:

For me, in my P/R deck, these two work like an engine together. I'd include 4 of each to ensure their effectiveness, and they'd turn up like a bad penny (for my opponents) recurring every turn, healing me and hurting them. They also worked as a nice distraction from all the other cards I was slinging at my opponents, leaving them wondering if they should put a stop to the mill engine or block the new card threat that was just played.
I'll save the discussion of this deck (called The Miller's Tale) for another post, but I just wanted to get things rolling for where we should be heading next in this thread.
So PLEASE, let's talk cards!

That deck sounds fun to play though I'm always afraid of putting a lot of Level 7 or higher cards in the deck (what if they all show up at the beginning of the game!)
Anyway, here's my favorite deck, I call it "You, Draw!" and these are the main key cards (you can figure out how this deck work)

SHSO: Colonial Spirit Prince
Current Heroes: Monkey King, Cable, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man, Scarlet Spider, Samurai Wolverine, Avenging Wolverine & Astonishing Cyclops
these cards work so well together! Curtain Call is the main card, so I put 3 of them in the deck to ensure it will show up, but even if you couldnt get to use Curtain Call, there are also other ways to beat your opponent, by making them draw cards and forcing them to discards and attack them with cards that benefit the "drawing" technique or the amount of cards in the hand (Tear Apart x2, Blue Light Special x4, World of Illusion x4, Find the Perfect Angle x4).
SHSO: Colonial Spirit Prince
Current Heroes: Monkey King, Cable, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man, Scarlet Spider, Samurai Wolverine, Avenging Wolverine & Astonishing Cyclops
All of the cards in the deck support the theme of the deck, there are some great helpers like these 2:
This can be an expensive deck to build but it is super fun and it does good against any deck really.

Most-winning? I never managed anything consistent. I probably had best luck with a Panther/Storm deck, tellingly. (Also; do they take away those cards now that they are not a couple? Tragic.)
Favorite/combo? Honestly, some of my current favorites are the new Emma cards, they go so well together. Mind Reading and Eye of Frost turns out to be a stronger combo than at first imagined. I'm really liking it. X-Men decks may be making a comeback!
What deck did I use to kick DD's butt? Well, power-lowering deck got quashed by weenie Panther/Storm. So there
I'm trying out a number of new concepts right now. Some of the projects include variations on how to play on the cheap (so many people who don't have a ton of gold for cards who might otherwise be players!), mechanic decks from the realms of the unexpected, and other little projects. Most of them have turned up useless, but a few have caught on. They're all in various stages of development, and can all be done better by players who have some better sensibilities than I do. (Hey, STG!)

Also, I wanted to direct everyone to a post on my new blog for SHSO, The Asgardian Throne Room, where reigning champ Shocking Techno Girl outlines her favorite cards! (Feel free to respond here rather than in comments, of course, but the blog is in part a forum space saver)

I would like to once again thank Mason (thanks Mason!) for her idea and running the league, and all the players who participated. While it came to a sudden end, I hope everyone did enjoy the league. Now that it's ended, I would like to start writing about my decks and thoughts about the SHSO card game. So I do hope you'll check out BB Ghost's blog to read my first article. I know it's long and I'm certainly not the most grammatically impressive writer, but next time it'll be shorter and more well structured. I hope you enjoy it.
Congrats Shocking Techno Girl! Sad way to end, but woohoo! Champion! Almost as cool as getting 16th place. Almost. ;)
