I know this ia a new concept to you but maybe having someone with and outside perspective on business can help turn a direction or a business around. They are called consultants. A couple of classes I took for my MBA were Strategic Management and Turn Around Management. Both taught by professionals not professors and we used real world case studies and their experiences. One thing that can easily summed up is in both instances they asked the consumers and their retaillers what their perceptions and recommendations were for the companies. That's what we are doing in here yet consultants would call them focus groups.

I thank god every day we don't run our comics through focus groups. I'd rather let our writers and artists create without 987 guys in suits watching over every page.

What's the percentage of $2.99 books at Marvel as opposed to DC or other comics companies? Has anyone ever bothered to break that down?

Well, DC has no $ 3.99 books except for the ones with extra content.

I think only Action and Justice League are $3.99.

Action and Justice League are $3.99. The rest are $2.99.

Marvel has most of their top books at $3.99. I'd love to check 'em out, but I'm not parying $4 for about twenty pages.

Does anyone here know the story about how Marvel's publisher Martin Goodman asked his editor Stan Lee to lay off all of the staff because he found a closet full of paid written and drawn comics in the 50's?

The thing that gets me is that Marvel NEVER learns its lessons--the Goodman strategy of cloning to death its most successful titles has NEVER WORKED! It pushes other comics off the shelves including their own!

I've written about this before as have other fans. It's a combination of factors that always brings them to this point:

In brief:

1. Endless clones (if not for George Lucas, I shudder to think how many STAR WARS books Marvel would have put out)

2. Lame ideas: Red hulks, red She-Hulks, "Conan"-Hulks, please stop!

3. automatic royalties which should be on a case-by-case basis: just imagine, a royalty for creating The Gibbon! *groan*

4. Undoing great earlier stories and replacing them with lame ones

5. "death" is meaningless so no one can take their stories seriously

I love Marvel's characters but I have no confidence in their stories or editorial policies.
