This is a great thread, but it's made me realize how weird it is when flashbacks are seen recreated shot-for-shot. I'm sure it's just a shortcut for the artist-- it's much easier to just copy a scene as it has been shown before-- but it also seems pretty uncreative, when it's a perfect oppurtunity to show an old scene from a new angle (literally, in this case).

What is wrong with you people? I can understand why people don't like the way Land uses tracings but as an end product those pages are far superior to Sandoval's.
Despite it's several flaws in the story Ultimate Power is one of the most beautiful looking books of the UU.

Finch's Magneto wins but his work on Ultimatum was awful. There is a bit where Namor looks like Beavis. And Cap looks like an insect on the cover.

Disagree. Land's work looks flat and static, the fact that he traces is only an explanation for why his work is so crap. There are good artists that draw static looking work, like Alex Ross and Tim Bradstreet, but they get away with it because of the level of detail and technical skill behind it (and most of the time their work is standalone images, not sequential art). I don't even think Land's work is fit for covers, its too boring and without style.

As far as his technique goes, its easy. Tedious as hell, but easy. Its the colours that carry his work, a painted style makes it look more impressive than it is. If he colours his own work then I give him credit, but as it stands just tracing a photograph isn't very time consuming or difficult. Look, just now I turned Clint Eastwood into the Punisher
