I was kind of hoping that they'd give us more information on their plans for collections.
Why aren't you reading Winter Soldier? You should be!
Wow, they could give anyone running for President a run for their money when it comes to spin!
They've got reason to be happy so far, but it's far from the mega, best ever success they're painting it as. And two months of figures don't exactly prove the concept has "legs". Nice try guys, but check back in a year or two and then tell me that.
That said, what else are they going to say? They have to plug it like that. I'm just a bit disappointed they said nothing about future plans, new books, things like that.
I think they sounded pretty meek, they kept saying theyre not here for the market share, theyre trying their best to meet retailers demands and they're saying people are telling them its not going to last, but they'll try their best. They did say theyre extremely excited, but they didnt go like, yeah... we know we're awesome, suck it other publishers.
They did. Wave 2 will come, but DC works six to eight months in advance, so right now they're still analyzing the data before they decide how much the market can bear for wave 2.
Personally, I don't there's THAT much spin being delivered here. Their numbers are growing: more people are talking about the books and picking them up, at least based on what I've seen at stores and seen on the 'net. And that's something to be proud of.
Besides, their spin has nice digs at Marvel (events, pricing, focus on winning) while celebrating the fact that their numbers are growing and this experiment worked.![]()
I believe that they mentioned in previous interviews that the new52 hardcovers start rolling out in May 2012. I believe that the 13 Week 1 books will come out first. The 13 Week 2 books come out in June. Week 3 in July and Week 4 in August.
Very nice article here. I think DC has a lot to be proud of with how they've dominated the sales charts. I think everyone expected them to take September and most expected them to take October as well, but I don't think anyone expected them to take it by such a wide margin. Going into the relaunch, I expected the flood of #1s to really skew the sales figures at least for a few months. I didn't expect it to be sustained for that long, especially since Marvel had the end of Fear Itself and the relaunch of Uncanny X-men and Wolverine and the X-men coming up. But those seemed to have been swallowed up by DC's success. I think that says a lot about the potential of what DC is doing. Between the relaunch, the digital push, and the overall quality of numerous books DC may be able to sustain these figures longer than anyone (myself included) expected. And in doing so, they could trigger even greater changes in the industry. Usually when a company does something that works, others try to follow it in their own way and who knows where that could lead?![]()

X-men Supreme
It puts sufficient distance between the completion of an average six issue story in floppy.format, and it also avoids the problems Marvel used to have in some instances, like the collected edition of a story being published about a month or in one instance, a week after a story wrapped in single issues.
That's not to say it's perfect, since as a trade waiter for many books, I can imagine my interest fading in the time it takes for them to put out a paperback.
Seriously? Marvel puts out their issue so fast? Why dont DC does that as well? I would assume that Marvel's trades would sell better than, but from what I know, DC has always sold better in trades. Strange.
I do wish trades come out earlier though, Im trade waiting several books. And I dun wanna wait til next year may or august in some cases. good grief.
Not really. At least not to me. To me, the DC strategy is aimed squarely at the bookstores, where the rhythm of customer purchases are different from the direct market. And it's a well known rhythm from decades of consumer behavior to draw upon. Trying to change that is breaking what's already working well.
