After barely edging out Marvel to take the top publisher spot in market and dollar share of the direct market in September, DC Comics significantly widened its lead in October, the second month of its heavily publicized line-wide New 52 relaunch. In October, half the books ordered by retailers were DC comics.

According to just-released numbers from Diamond Comic Distributors, DC laid claim to 42.47 percent of the market in dollars and 50.97 percent in units sold -- up from 35.74 percent and 43.04 percent the previous month -- versus Marvel's 29.1 percent and 30.29 percent. In September, Marvel held 35.7 percent of the market in dollars and 37.88 percent in units sold.

Over 50%. Holy $h!t. That is incredible.

I'm hoping that Digital Sales are enough to keep Static afloat. It's just starting to get good. I don't want it to get cancelled after 12 issues.

Those worries aside, good job DC. I'm legitimately happy that the company is proving the naysayers wrong.

Y'know, perhaps the most effective response to them these days is simply to ignore them -- which DC is truly making a much easier thing to do.

I've been strictly digital with this reboot, and when my money gets better, I'm definitely going to catch up more on other comics that people have been raving about (Animal Man and Action Comics.)

I'm actually curious though how DC has been faring on the Digital front.

Oh I know, but this what they were saying last month, when DC only beat them by a few percentage points. I'm just curious to see how it's spun this month when the gap is so much bigger.

Marvel's real response would be to launch a bunch of new #1's to the market.

Wait until Justice Society is released, along with the other books in the 2nd wave. I can't wait to see those numbers after the resounding success of this. DC got game and fans are taking notice.

If DC is smart, they'll amp up their promotions again for the 2nd wave of books. Those 2nd set of numbers could be major.
