Another audience member wanted to know if doing a big blockbuster like “Iron Man was part of Black’s plan to finance smaller independent films. “It allows me to do my Casey Anthony biopic, yeah. It’s from the child’s point of view,” joked Black as the audience half laughed and half groaned. He then said that films like “Iron Man” were passion projects for him.
    LOL.

    Awesome.

    Crap...

I was really, really hoping for that... :(

Yeah, I KNOW he's kinda' a rascist caricature, but he could be, and in recent years, most definitely have been, so much more.

He's without the shadow of a doubt Iron Man's Nemesis.

He stands at the opposite side of Tony Starks spectrum, the other side of the coin.

Damn... I really hope they're actually going to use him. He's just too good not to.

I'd like the villain to be Ghost.

So nobody got the Haunted arc by the Knaufs into his hands?

I mean, that's the arc that gave me a renewed appreciation for the character.
Why aren't you reading Winter Soldier? You should be!

The Ghost would've been great for the second film, and challenged Tony on a more mental level.

I want the villain to be alcohol.

Seriously, there will be much disappointment if the movie isn't based on Demon in a Bottle.

Yeah that's not gonna happen. He was drunk enough in the second flick. They aren't gonna do the Demon In The Bottle story line they've already said.

Black sure is whiney. Does he like anything that's not his own work?

It would be a shame if Shane Black didn't find a way to make the Mandarin work. It's kind of ludicrous to dismiss Iron Man's greatest foe, when it's been proven that the Mandarin doesn't have to be depicted as a racist caricature as this series demonstrated...

Yeah, I got that impression from the article as well. Doesn't sound like he was all too happy at finding out he won't be writing the movie, initially.

He comes across as competent and honest to me. I like that he can critisize Iron Man 2 and realises that it had flaws, especially when he is still going to have to work with Favreau on 3.

Huge shame he isn't a fan of Mandarin though, he's such a perfect villain for Tony.

Agreed. Two was flawed. Glad he can see that, assess why, and progress toward not repeating that problem.

Yes, he'd be a good choice. Would fit in with the espionage theme Black said would be prominent in the movie.

Still don't understand how the Mandarin is hard to translate. Modern comics got it. The CGI cartoon got it. Don't see how hard it would be for a film adaptation.

Did you not read the article? He gave a VERY good reason why DEMON IN A BOTTLE would not make for a good adaptation -- suddenly the story becomes ALL about the alcoholism and he's absolutely right, no one wants to see an Iron Man film that has Tony Stark going to AA meetings constantly. That does not make for a compelling super hero film. Certainly, it's an amazing story and a substantial part of the Iron Man/Tony Stark mythos, but a compelling 2 hour movie it does not make.
