    Default NEW GLORY SERIES changes-interest?

GLORY one of the mid 1990s many extremly sexualized female hero creations
created by Rob Liefeld (ugh!) and image comics
she was simply a wonder woman rip off in evrey sense of the word
like many of thease creations she faded into obsurity only to be throne in to one shot team ups with others such as lady death evrey once and a while

this december image comics is releasing all new ongoing glory series with some pretty drastic changes (artistic wise at the very least)
    Joe Keatinge is the writer
i couldnt fine the artist full name but ross is his last name
i think this will get the changes across well

    1995

    2011 (NEW SERIES COVER ART)

ok from thease images there clearly making her much MUCH less sexualized
and i think there going for a more serious brutal tone for the book and her character
i really hope they put a good story with this cus the art has already sold me on at least buying the first issue and i never read a single issue of her old series

what do you guys think of this
the art, glory, your hopes expectations of this throw it all out there
please tho leave the liefeld hate to a minimum... oh i hate him too i just dont want it to clogg up the thread

I love Rob and his universe of characters. Glory was written by a woman, Jo Duffy, and her portrayal wasn't a cheesecake one in writing terms, even if the art went that way a lot from Deodato Studios. It was a fun story.

This new series looks brutal! Joe Keatinge is a hell of a nice guy and talent writer. The preview featuring Glory smashing a tank during WWII whilst holding a severed arm. Sweet.

    I'm torn.

I liked Glory. And one of my biggest regrets is that Alan Moore never finished the mini he wrote for Avatar (he only wrote two issues, but those two issues were sublime).

Taking a cheesecake icon and stripping that element away kind of annoys me. It's why I can't bring myself to touch the new Vampirella series. Decent cheesecake is thin on the ground these days, and I miss it.

That art is kind of fugly, which I suppose is the point. And the concept is interesting. I might give it a shot.

One of the things I liked about the original Glory was that it was a fun, fairly light-hearted action book. It wasn't just non-stop cheesecake--she frequently fought monsters of all kinds, including completely human ones--but Glory was indeed a slightly sexier version of Wonder Woman during the mid '90s and made no apologies about being so.

IMO, the new Glory has exchanged one "Ooo factor" for another--trading up sensuality for gore (Lady Death had both). The new Glory series being less sexy and more blood & guts is fine--I can see some story potential in that, definitely--but the art really doesn't grab me (the characters have a kind of squashed, almost "Munchkin-like" look to me).
Always remember this stuff isn't real.

    Ross Campbell is the artist.

I'm interested in this book and Prophet.
The art's like a mixture of manga and elfquest ! Probably won't appeal to everyone.

The writer did an excellent story called "Stardust the Super Wizard."

But seeing this art...the technique is good, but for the character, it looks hideous.

    That's how I see Glory.

Dunno why they couldn't start a new Glory series continuing where Alan Moore left off.

My review of GLORY #23, the first of the Extreme Relaunch.

    http://www.examiner.com/comic-book-i...lory-23-review

Of my limited Glory reading experience (an early issue of her series and JUDGMENT DAY) this was by far the most enjoyable. I see a lot more fun and potential from this updated version.

    Yea. Glory #23 was tremendous.

Joe Keatinge wrote terrific re-introduction to the character that is neither boring or pandering.

Agreed. Joe managed to tie in aspects of the original version and Moore's version while also establishing a new status quo. It's a fantastic read and Joe basically makes it so you don't need to read anything that's gone before. Everything you need to know about the character and concept is there within this one issue.

The gore is just another element. It's hardly the main ingredient in the book. I can't wait to see what comes next and what the entire Extreme relaunch brings.
