The snark in me wants to point out that eventually Uncanny will revert back to Legacy numbering.
But the comic nerd in me wants to slap you on the back for a well done 'Eulogy'. The weekly consistency of Comics makes them natural mileposts for our lives, so thanks for sharing yours.
...This Euology touched my heart....Perfect article CBR.

This is well said. Whether the "break" is contrived or not, it gives us a chance to reflect on what this very unique series has meant to us...and that is a good thing.
I'm much older than the writer of this article, but my own experience with UXM is very similar (minus the homemade Nightcrawler getup). In fact, I would have to say that along with Fred Rogers, Sesame Street, and my faith...the X-men had a huge impact on my worldview as I grew up. From them I learned that it is ok to be different, and that it is a moral responsibility to stick up for those who are. I learned about loyalty, and courage, and ideals worth dying for.
Thanks UXM...looking forward to what's next.

I'm normally very cynical about comics lately, but Uncanny was the first comic book I bought with my own money as a kid. I'll miss it while it is gone.
It was issue #166, the "end" of the Brood Saga - although not really, because there was the first meeting of the X-Men and the New Mutants coming, which was amazing to me as a kid.
So you hate Husk. Is that what you're saying? Or Chuck Austen's version of her? Because if you hate Husk, Imma punch you in the face. That's what Husk haters get.

Oh, fer Christ's sake, Uncanny is not ending! It's just a renumbering gimmick. They'll switch it back to the origininal count in time for Issue 600.
My 1st issue of Uncanny was 244.
I bought it at my town's *GASP* news stand.
uncanny x-men is dead, long live uncanny x-men.
I think we're all aware that the original Uncanny X-Men renumbering will return and we've seenr Marvel do this in the past during The Age of Apocolypse. Then as in now it was fitting.
I personally VERY much connected with this article because I too started reading UXM with 298 (might've been 297) and went on to not follow Casey's run but suffer through Chuck Austen's. The timing of the FOX cartoon was critical for me as well because I was familiar with X-Men from Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends and was interested in the animated show and before it debuted picked up Jim Lee's X-Men, the issue in the Mojo Universe, and while I was woefully confused I was overwhelmed with the amazing artwork.
UXM was comics to me for MANY years. Put an X on it and I would've bought (that explains purchasing X-Nation 2099 :) ) and Lobdell/Nicieza entertained my reading time to no end.
I do feel this is an "ending" of sorts to UXM as I personally have felt the X-Universe has grown too large and the franchise itself isn't quite what it used to be. I do think Marvel has made it much better in recent years but I feel like the artwork is more common where in the past Uncanny was THE book for art...whether it was a legendary run with Byrne, the unique memorable clean lines of Paul Smith, the electricity from Silvestri, Lee, Portacio and the phenom that was Madureira.
I'm glad to see that W&XM is a return of sorts to the old school framework of mutants at a school and I hope it in turn will become THE book for a new fan as UXM was for me.
Aww I loved the show & tell bit with 318. Adorable.
Schmitty's Evil Twin.
arg...nothing about Silvestri' run ? Neither JRJR ?
Dude, the best is still to come, but that ain't especially in what will follow..
