I really enjoyed the second issue as well. We got an answer about whether the space segments were imagined or real, some clear movement in the storyline, and a cool action sequence. I am guessing that this would read better in larger chunks just because it's a very foreign world and speak. Once you really get running with it, it seems the issue is over. But I like to read things like this as single issues and chunk them together. So I've read #2 and now I'll read #1 and #2 together. After I read #3 I'll read 1-3 together. Especially with something this rich, the multiple reads are pretty fun.

I read it the same way, it's always satisfying to have more to read but at the same time the story with its cliff hanger endings is something that is really fun to read issue by issue. In trade form I think it would lose a lot of its tension and suspense and I really feel those are some of its strongest qualities.

    • Read #1 --> was confused, and a little irritated I even paid a dollar for the comic

    • Re-Read #1 --> things became much clearer... consider me interested

    • Read #2 --> was a struggle to even make it through, did not like it at all

    • Re-Read #2 --> LOVED it, now I can't wait for #3 :)

Can't remember the last time I've had that experience, but it was pretty awesome.

Hopefully you can get a hold of it, Spaceman is definitely my favorite new title and it's probably the most fun I've had reading a comic since I first read Hellboy.

You can always ask them to order it for you.

And the line, "Get down! They be scurvy dogs!"? Best single line of dialog I've read in a while. It made me laugh harder than a comic has any right to.
Indeed. There was a lot of great dialogue in this issue. Orson's "Already got a dick-hole. Don't need another" after tricking & drugging the kidnapper was hilarious.

So I'm wondering if Orson's 'mission-dreams' are flashbacks to sims that he and his brothers ran, since they never actually made it off-planet to Mars?

That was my original thought, that they were perhaps flashbacks to some isolation tests, but from the dialog in issue two it seems like the program ended too early for that as the kidnapper said it was disbanded and the orphan spacemen were given away to foster parents... except for Orson who went to an orphanage.

It seems then that they are visions of pure fantasy.

I'm a big fan of the creative team, but the weird dialogue kina took me out of the story, I'm gonna stick wit it though, the art is great and I think eventually after a few issue's, the dialogue will start to come across a little better, once we get used to it. Case in point, #2 was a better read.

D'oh! Yeah, it spells that out right in the first few pages of this issue (with Orson correcting the kidnapper that he was sent to an orphanage, not a foster home), which would make Orson and his bros way too young to have run any mission sims together. Not sure how I didn't connect those dots at the time. Hmph, next time I'll think a theory through before I post it...

I'm not too sure if they aren't real. I guess public outrage disbanded the program? But they still may have gone to space by a wealthy private citizen. remember our Brad and Angelina are in the business of working with orphans/kids. The timeline between disbanding the program and now is unrevealed.

I think it's safe to say he never went to space, it was revealed it was disbanded when they were children and if I'm remembering correctly I think he even said he had never been in space.

Finally got this book today and could't wait to start reading. After the sublime first issue I didn't expect the second issue to be as good, but wow it continues to be amazing. Definitely my favourite book at the moment. I'm in till issue 9 now. Bring on #3!

You guys think I'll enjoy 100 Bullets if I enjoy Spaceman, and Azzarello's Wonder Woman and the Flashpoint: Batman mini?

Maybe when we see these Mars panels they're actually some sort of flash forwards? I know it's a stretch, but who knows?

I agree, I was pretty surprised at how well the story maintained it's momentum into issue two, it made for a great read.

I don't know about 100 Bullets or Wonder Woman but his Batman mini during Flashpoint was pretty good. I didn't follow the event but I got his tie in because it seemed fun and it certainly was. The conclusion wasn't as powerful for me as it included some elements from the main story of the event...which I didn't read...but other than that it was a great read as an Elseworld's kind of take on Batman.
