I really really loved this issue ! DON'T LEAVE GEORGE PLEASE !!!

The only problem i have is that if this is supposed to be a more bad ass/ less boy scout-ish Superman why is he letting some General talk smack to him, i can understand his portrayal in Action where he is safely hiding in some underground military base and sending whatever he can at him, but to talk smack to his face? man that's takes either a lot of balls or a whole lot of stupidity, how does he know that Superman wont lose his temper and get tired of General Lane antagonizing him? he really doesn't right now.

I mean Superman could do something subtle to get back at him like giving him cancer with his X-ray vision or a heart attack with his heat vision(it's possible if used subtlety i guess)and how could Gen Lane prove otherwise? and even if he could there ain't jack he could do about it.

It's tantamount to me going up to Mike Tyson and telling him what a stupid loser he is.

Tho i'm sure this is not Perez's idea and it's probably editorially mandated to coincide with Morrison's Action comic.

I'm afraid they are :( Part of this new iteration of Supes is focusing on the fact that (well, there's Kara) he's alone and an outsider.

I'll add my voice to pariah-1972, Perez is knocking this out of the park. I've faith in the Jurgens/Giffen combo but if it ain't broke.. Hope George is doing well though and is doing what HE wants.
Did Wonder Woman and Superman just catch an aircraft carrier?

The interplay between Sam Lane and Kal was great too, I'm very interested to see what their relationship is like in the DCnU. Especially after he oversaw such a brutal torture of Superman, in Action Comics.

    I love this book.
Yeah, it is a great book, and the focus on media is appreciated. It's the most modern the DCU reporter's beat has felt in years, and it doesn't come across as artificial.

I like Sam and Kal's dynamic, too--especially the idea that Lane can do more harm with his words than if he brought down the fury of the US military on Superman.

Agreed i like both Jurgens and Giffen but even if the follow the story that has been established so far it's going to feel different.
Also the fact that they are both working on other titles means that the other titles will suffer or this one will and i really love what Giffen is doing with O.M.A.C .

Anyone notice that Lois has violet eyes ?

I think it's pretty clear at this point to people who've known Superman personally that he values human life.

And that's why Lane's real criticism of Superman isn't that he's a loose cannon, but that he attracts the wrong kind of attention.

My personal thought--and it's just speculation--is that the new deadline policy is the reason why we're going to see more frequent creative shifts. But that stronger editorial hand should also mean that we'll get better continuity when those shifts occur.

That might be true but when has GEORGE PEREZ ever had problems with deadlines?

I personally think he might not be crazy about having to follow Morrison's story lock stock and barrel.

For a creative person that would be like a straight jacket.

So far I am liking what they are doing with this story line and I am actually excited to see what they turn out next month.

One thing I am a tad confused about (although I may have just missed this in the first issue) is Jimmy the DC New 52 version of Jimmy Olsen?

I, too, am loving what Perez is doing. I even prefer it over Action...not sure why. It might have to do with the fact that I'm just burned out on Origin stories, no matter how "fresh" they seem.

I loved how, after not being able to see the villain, Superman puts his other senses to use. This was fantastic...for years we've been waiting for Superman to use his powers in tandem, instead of just coming out swinging. This was great.

I liked the return of the silver age "Fortress Diary", and was glad they updated it to a recording instead of the giant pen. Batman has his dossiers and "Black Casebook"...it makes sense that Superman would want a record of his adventures as well. Can't wait to see what the Fortress looks like from the outside, and I thought his new suit looked badass here. It's really growing on me.

To anyone saying Superman #1 and #2 are "too wordy", I say...really? Are we all so lazy anymore that we just want splash pages and pretty pictures for our $2.99-$3.99? I hate it when I spend $2.99 on Supergirl and it's read and done in under 5 minutes. I don't understand the criticism of a book that gives you lots of story to absorb. Maybe it's just me (shrug).

After reading this I'm sad to see Perez go after issue 6.

And I wish he would let Merino do his own breakdowns because his art is fantastic.
