The 1994 Fox Animated Spider-Man show

today i saw a great episdoe the return of venom and with his twin. and dromamo. and also with iron man. that was great episdoe. what did you think?

I never watched the show until three months ago (when I got hooked onto ASM).

And I guess at that time, it might've been a great show, but for me, I really dislike it. The art, while having aged, seems okay for a 90s cartoon. The story, despite its alterations (i.e. Harry Osborne's fate) is okay.

However, I find Christopher Barnes to be a mixed bag. I like him a lot, he's one of my top 3 best Spider Man VA. He sounds like the perfect Spider Man, heroic and full of himself, and yet that's the problem. Don't forget, it's not Spider Man, it's Peter Parker who's the main character. So basically, I think Christopher Barnes is too perfect for Spider Man, and not Peter Parker. I always saw Peter Parker (as an adult, mid 20s) best voice acted by Harris Neil Patrick, y'know, from the Spider Man TNAS (MTV, outdated CG?) or the Amazing Spider Man in Shattered Dimensions.

He sounded like any normal and sincere guy. The fact that he didn't sound heroic (or like a teen in SSM) made me see Harris Neil Patrick as being closer to the character of Peter Parker, a normal guy with seemingly no special traits, trying to do good.

I NEVER liked the 1994 Animated show, even as a child. The writing was corny, the animation and voice acting sucked, and even I could tell that it was heavily censored, which was ridiculous for a kid's super hero action show. Stick with Spectacular Spider-Man---the greatest Spidey animated show EVER, hands down!!!

I was actually the same as a kid. I actually appreciate it now I'm older though, for some reason. Whereas X-Men which I LOVED as a kid, I tried rewatching that and I just thought it aged AWFULLY.

I loved this show when I was a kid, but haven't re-watched it recently. Coming off the back of the X-Men cartoon, it was the golden age to be a kid and into Marvel (even if that did make us children of the Clone Saga - which I have no problem with )

What can I say? I love this show, but to compare to TSSM (best animated Spidey show ever):
1. Being squeezed: Spider-Man from the 90s cartoon always needed to be saved. TSSM guy on the other hand got squeezed by OX twice, he smart-mouthed him & escaped quickly, and was funny at it
2. Vs the main crime boss: 90s cartoon guy always got squished, TSSM lost once, defeated Tombstone the second time making him lose consciousness

Plus, in the 90s cartoon he fights nicely, but around a guest star they unbalance writing and always turn him to a wimp in need of rescue. Chhump

I love the intro joke, but the first season intro doesn't really have that showing him defeated or running like the remainder seasons

I kinda agree, I like the parts of that 90s intro without singing
Yes, that 60s intro is a lot better and more fun to listen to, plus it says who Spider-Man is in short words

I'm watching this show again, and I really enjoy it, but it has too many faults that stopped it from aging well, even X-Men with its horrid voice acting aged much better than this

• The intro theme is just horrendous
• Voice acting can often be hammy, it's still better than X-Men, but there are times it sounds less pleasant to listen to
• Alteration in Spider-Man's size, sometimes he's small, others he's just buffed up
• Spider-Man being squeezed by a villain, always needs someone to save him, he even needed Jameson to save him from Scorpion squeezing him. In Spider-Man Unlimited he was grabbed by Venom on the shuttle, Spider-Man used his legs to free himself.
• The way Spider-Man is under-powered is just too much, I'm not a gym person, but I could remove the rubble he was under thanks to Shocker in the Venom episode as fast as he did. I understand de-powering him for the purpose of adding tension, but they went way overboard with it, he even states his trouble lifting a Vulks Wagon in the first symbiote episode. Spider-Man strength was toned down to a high note in TSSM, but he wasn't adapted to the same kind of lightweight
• All that stock footage: nearing 20% of the frames is stock shots, and not stock motion with alternating backgrounds like the 60s cartoon did
• In the Mysterio episode, they trusted Mysterio even after his parlor trick in the museum with the roof. In the same episode people could clearly see another Spider-Man and listen to the dialogue exchange, but still: Mysterio hurrah hurrah. Better work can be found by the same writer in that Dazzler & Lightmaster issue
• Spider-Man can fight bad guys and be snappy about it, but when guest stars are near him he turns pansy and always needs to be saved, the villains punching bag
• Scorpion turned giant and with claws, he wanted a cure for that, next thing you know it he's in normal size, no claws, a member of the Insidious Six, would kill for a chance to work for Kingpin, not thinking about a cure or such, everything about him is hazy and unexplained. How did his monster size changed and never brought back?
• Vulture stuck in the Man-Spider disease, he and Scorpion go their separate ways, later without explaining, Toomes is cured, but he can be young at moments, he's tied up in Gagran's closet, and we don't get clued how they tangled with each other
• No punching censorship caused more property damage than the superhero registration act wants to stop, or at least keep heroes responsible enough for
• Why the heck would Peter's webs not work under water? I noticed terrible inconsistency in his web in the 80s cartoon, but this is far beyond ridiculous
• Back to the Venom episode, what kind of cameras can't focus just because the assigned target is moving a lot?
• For a show having a more reasonable version of JJ, you'd at least expect him to be somewhat grateful and less hating
• How the symbiote moved on the astronauts uniforms from the outside only, and the devices suddenly go out of control , shuttle controls freeze, and both astronauts need immediate hospitalization. I never liked this, still don't, Spectacular was -by far- smarter in handling the story
• The Insidious Six stop working for Kingpin at the end of the episode, but then Ock is Kingpin's chew toy, or as someone here likes to say it; spoilers:

  Kingpin's buttmonkey

  end of spoilers. The guy who scared Kingpin out of his pants in comics shouldn't be translated to this, not the Master Planner
• Kingpin being involved in almost every plot and with everyone, including Prowler. I love Hobie for a guy who made his stuff, not just some third rate hood seeking vengeance and turns to another of Fisk's chew toys
• Osborn being Kingpin's b****. I gotta admit, I didn't find Osborn enough of an interesting villain before being head of security, and I liked him more after being given the armor of the Patriot, but even then I recognized how wrongfully they handled the character
• What a youtube member posted on one of the videos published by same guy I quote about Ock's description from spoilers:

• Captain America being lost in that portal with the Skull. Yeah, stupid

With the exception of Peter's personality, the movies starring Tobey Maguire are much much better, especially if I compare how Spidey was in Ock's grasp ready to be squeezed twice in Spider-Man 2, first time he quips and escapes, the other he hurts his foe using his weapon and escapes, didn't need Mary Jane or Aunt May, or heck, even the bank teller to save him

Well, I disagree. First of all the intro theme was amazing.
Second of all I liked TAS more then the Raimi movies. Sure some of the stuff I hated were the stock footage, which after a while is really anoying, andf some stuff you point and others concerning continuity. However, as for Osborn we have to understand that Osborn was not around by that time, neither his return was on the works. So what I am saying is that the character was credited less than we think about him. In addition I liked the Kingpin who was behind everything, though I hated the fact that he was behind everything everything. On some point it may started being annoying, though it was a nice idea, especially in the begining. Sure it had its flaws, but for me it has aged really well, and I think there were some fantastic episodes, and some others which even if the continuity was changed, they did justice to the characters and the mythos in general.

And even thoug it was not the show that introduced me to the character (amazing friends was), it was the show that made me a spider-man fanatic and comic book collector, so I cannot not love it.
