I like how you leave the fact that Azz was asked about how to make her cool, when he said what he said about it.
And he said GODS are the original concepts for superheroes. Not bad behaviour. You can hate what the guy did to Wonder Woman, but there's no need to make him say something he didn't.
People, read the interview, it's far from being as pretentious or condescending than the OP makes it look like. Or at least, it would be your indignation.
"I'm going to paraphrase Nietzsche, when you judge a work, the work judges you."
Wonder Woman is cool. Most of her comics haven't been.
I feel very possessive of this creative team. They are *my* creative team. Great interview.
Well, whatever DC did with Azzarello and Chiang, it worked.
More people are buying Wonder Woman and singing her praises than they have in 10 years.
I gotta say, I love it.

Wonder Woman was never cool. It was a niche, and a boring one. Now she is. Thanks to Azzarello I'm buying this book, and his Wonder Woman kicks ass.

But he could have replied by saying that she was cool already, and that he was maybe trying to bring a different kind of coolness to her, or something. He didn't. And there was that whole snarky "she is now" nonsense.
He said that they were us, cranked to 11, on both sides. Superheroes are not cranked to 11 on both sides -- perhaps on just the one good side, but definitely not (indeed, by definition) on the side of evil. If I misunderstood him here, then I retract that particular response. And he said GODS are the original concepts for superheroes. Not bad behaviour. You can hate what the guy did to Wonder Woman, but there's no need to make him say something he didn't.
And of course I suggest people read the interview--it's why I linked it above.
Some of her comics in the Silver Age weren't, but for the most part that's not even come up. Apart from that, I profoundly disagree. Just in the last few years, we had the Rucka, Simone, and Jimenez runs, all excellent, all cool, all worth reading, and all--in my personal but considered analysis--better than the new one.Originally Posted by Fused
Yeah, he could, but he didn't say she wasn't before either. Chiang may have implied it, however.
For the "origin of superheroes", I think he was replying to 2 different things: gods are like us, but overly exagerated, and gods are the origin of superheroes. Now, the analogy could perfectly work if we include supervillains in the mix.

LOL Azzarello is such an ass, he just doesnt like to be interviewed. haha, but he writes one helluva story.Since the Linda Carter TV series, Warner Bros. has had an impossible time getting a Wonder Woman TV show or movie off the ground. Jump in the director's seat: who would you cast as your interpretation of Wonder Woman? Do you picture anyone in your mind when you're writing Wonder Woman?
Azzarello: My mom. My mom is my Wonder Woman
I liked the interview, but sometimes, Azz's dialogues confuse me. :P hehe..
Ah, I read Chiang's response as being completely the opposite--implying that she is cool now, and was not until now.
I agree re that, yes.For the "origin of superheroes", I think he was replying to 2 different things: gods are like us, but overly exagerated, and gods are the origin of superheroes. Now, the analogy could perfectly work if we include supervillains in the mix.
