I still say the reason isn't that T-Challa isn't good at personal relationships, but the WRITERS aren't good at WRITING good personal relationships. And I lay that at the foot of the Marvel editorial staff. I don't care how much people wanted their marriage to dissolve (why I don't know other than to continue a personal fantasy of a single Storm, since single female character are easier to think about than ones hitched), nobody can say this was the story they wanted to read to see how it actually ended, because I'm sorry, It makes no damn sense in the "WHY" it ended. In the 6 panel one page, 12 word balloon 'event' HELL, she even says right there that she didn't even know what was going on, which frankly is true, if you follow the Uncanny X-men tie ins all she's been doing is sitting around trading woo-is-me stories with Magento and Psylocke. Sure we'll get the (shipping late in my opinion AvsX book), but it makes no sense at all.
Even worst, he annulled their marriage without even telling her. That's some cowardedly BS from Black Panther/The man without fear/The deadliest Man alive. I hate that Marvel has now made me lose respect for one of my favorite characters.

If they do work it out, only place that I can see it happening is in Consequences since that's basically the fallout of AvX. So we'll have to wait until October to see.
I guess T'Challa's feelings come from that in this conflict that Storm supported the X-Men and actively fought against the Avengers allowing Namor to end up in possession of a fraction of the PF and that even after that, she did nothing to stop them even after they had called on a manhunt for the Avengers. So it seems that he's holding guilt by association since he stated that all X-Men (probably besides Wolverine and Beast at least) are enemies of Wakanda since Namor was one of theirs. On the upside, I'm glad that in this issue that Storm's not only siding with the Avengers but she's also doing the job Scott gave her as a member of his team; stopping him if she sees that he's gone too far.
Holding out for a Peter/Miles team up.
Er, yes? Gay marriage is a hot button issue and Marvel played up the marriage to great sales and publicity. Marjorie Lui's more or less said it was an editorial mandate too, so we know this wasn't the result of the writer herself. And worst of all, some of those involved (Northstar, Warbird) had to be twisted out of character to make it all happen.
At least in the case of Kyle though, he wasn't a pre-existing character with decades of history. He was created to be Northstar's boyfriend/damsel so he's pretty much a blank slate for background, motivation, connections, etc.
I think the reason people come to this conclusion for Storm/BP is because race was really seemingly the only thing that deeply connected them. Yes Claremont and Priest had laid some hint of subtle deeper connection there, but it was never properly followed up or built upon. We had a rushed and hugely publicized wedding of the century, an embarrasingly retconned statutory rape to justify it and not really much more. It was bad, and the marriage since really hasn't been any better, with the only moments of interest generally coming from friction or discontent between them. People only see race because that's mainly what there is to grasp on to.

I think this sums up T'Challa pretty well. I saw so much potential for them as a couple, but it has been made clear that there was no interest in pursuing that potential for them, so I am happy to see it coming to an end. I hope their ending dialogue does both characters justice.
Writers generally did a good job of making Storm's actions within the relationship actually make sense, though. I mean, besides Bendis, but that's Bendis, you really can't expect much from him. There's just something wrong with the writers writing Black Panther in the relationship, lol. And as for "a personal fantasy of a single Storm," etc.: That's not why. I don't mind female characters getting married. But the Storm and Black Panther marriage was awful for a million reasons stated a million times over on the Internet, by posters much more articulate than I (read this if you want the bullet points). Now that it's over, I hope we can just stop talking about it.
Ugh, I have to vent for a moment:
What a little b*tch, taking his suffering and the suffering of his people (rather, their people, as former King and Queen) out on his wife, who was not at fault for Namor's actions (and, pretty sure, not even present at the time). Annulling their marriage and shutting her out instead of, I don't know, trying to talk to his wife and understand her point of view is ridiculous. Making this decision by himself, instead treating her like an equal partner in their marriage, also ridiculous. Meh, why are we talking about this marriage (which I was over it before it even began), when this also happened:
Yesssss! *appreciates* ;D I wish I'd gone to my LCS today to see this! Someone can post a panel though, yeah?
Heard she was also great in adjectiveless X-Men #33 today.
I wouldn't be surprised if she led the X-Men post-AVX. Well, the non-time-traveling ones, anyway.
I also agree that the track record when it comes to marriage in the Marvel Universe is a pretty abysmal one. But for me, there was one simple reason why the marriage between Black Panther and Storm was never going to work: they were characters who belonged to completely different comic book franchises. And any time Marvel or DC has had two characters from completely different franchises become romantically involved, unless they are exclusively on a team-up together and have no other solo series, the relationship never, ever lasts in the long run and--as was the case with Black Panther and Storm--winds up doing long-term damage to both characters.

^The irony of course being that there's a high probability both are going to be on Avengers teams after this event.
Oh Marvel... you so cray cray.
I don't recall seeing her even bothering to lift a finger to help her so called people but guess she was only queen in name alone as she rarely outside of BP's book even acted like one or gave a damn about her "people".....kinda just like when she abandoned the morlocks
How can you abandon someone when you keep pushing them away? It's not like T'challa was inviting or even tried to really integrate her in. Not only that but since when has he even cared that much for his people? Did not he spend months in Hell's Kitchen trying to get his groove back? Bricks, Glass Houses, you know that type of thing. Even though his wife did reach out to him and he kept rejecting her.
