Well it doesn't come out to 2013 so I'd say they are taking their time with it. I just pray for Beta Ray Bill and the Wrecking Crew.

And this needs to be merged with the CBR News Thread.

I just really hope that Anthony Hopkins comes back. Hemsworth, Hiddleston, and Portman are confirmed, but they need to lock in Odin.

What fueled this decision? Taking a big budget Action like Thor 2 and giving it to someone who's directed Life time movie shorts, some tv show episodes and monster?

"praising the studio for considering her despite her lack of experience with big special effects" That's like praising Microsoft for hiring a new CEO with no experience in software, or management.

I have no confidence at all in this movie at this point. Hope I am wrong. I'm willing to be surprised.

Man, Monster was great, with Charleze Theron as a giant electrical tentacle monster harassing South America.

Remember when Gavin Hood, who directed the excellent "Tsotsi" got the the X-Men Origins: Wolverine, gig? Well, we know how that turned out.

I could be wrong, however. It could still be great. But, its a risk.

I wonder what these productions must be like. Sometimes I suspect entire action sequences and effects shots are scripted, storyboarded and pre-vized before a director even signs on.

And, agreed— Hopkins as Odin is needed again. He's the one I think is mostly likely to to leave the cast.

Well, I wish them luck. Its not like I want to see a bad Thor film...

Because the Shakespeare dude had a ton of FX experience?

The only difference is that on that one FOX was involved, so....it explains itself.

I'll wait to see how it goes. I'll have some faith, but let's just see. I mean, if you get a good effects director, then they can pretty much take care of special effects and explosions. So as long as we can see a good plot with good characters, I think we'll be good.

It's not like the director actually produces the effects him/herself. They have experts for that. Movies are (or should be) about storytelling, and those principles should be the same regardless of the scale.

Good chunk of the action scenes are directed by second and third units and will be Pre vized by people who worked on the previous Marvel movies.

They hired her to deal with the actors.

And there's that. It's no accident most of the Marvel Films directors came off of box office disappointments before they did their superhero movie.

Also they are looking who are willing to play ball and compromise on stuff. Which is why you'll never see a high profile director take on their movies.

Two years away. It's really hard to care right now.

Branagh didn't have special effects experience, either. Still, he was a more natural fit ... and I say that as someone who thought Thor was shit.
