My first issue of "Uncanny X-Men" was #138. Sure, I missed the 'Dark Phoenix Saga', but I got the entire back story of the team in my first sitting! I'd been reading the Spider-Man titles for awhile, and the Avengers and Fantastic Four too, but that issue was a crash course in a very strange (but very cool) team's history, and an amazing immersion into John Byrne's work. Cyclops has been one of my top 3 favorite X-Men (Iceman and Colossus are the other two) ever since.

As for the JLA, Dick Dillin's run was my first exposure to that team, and he will always hold a place in my personal Artist Pantheon. But man, did #200 kick butt. I can still picture the Brian Bolland chapter, with Black Canary's expressive face as she rubbed the sore spot Ollie's arrow had made on her head. And I had no idea who the Martian Manhunter was before that issue - what a cool hero, and the way he took down one of my favorites at the time, Firestorm. And that chapter's Pat Broderick art knocked my socks off. The whole book was amazing (I bought it off the racks), and I still have it in great condition to this day.

JLA 200 was so great for so many reasons. I loved the background on the cover. I loved the way Adam Strange, Snapper, and Phantom Stranger all had cameos.

I loved this story, great stuff. This was around the time that I started reading comics too IIRC.

At my school we only dared to read comic books during our lunch period, at a table far from "the cool kids". Why give them more fodder to break our nerd chops?

I have to hunt down JLA #200 now, sounds like a great issue!
