Marvel has released a teaser featuring Wolverine and Quentin Quire for Brian Wood's upcoming X-related project, details of which are promised to be announced during the NYCC "Regenesis" panel.

I think it's either of those options. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the prior. Aaron was probably always set for 'Wolverine and the X-Men', and so Marvel gave him the first couple of years of the Wolverine series to set it all up/show fans his Wolverine skills/practice on an X-book.
