GW Bush battled Gog and Magog

Or at least that's his justification for invading Iraq.

Incredibly, President George W. Bush told French President Jacques Chirac in early 2003 that Iraq must be invaded to thwart Gog and Magog, the Bible’s satanic agents of the Apocalypse.
Honest. This isn’t a joke. The president of the United States, in a top-secret phone call to a major European ally, asked for French troops to join American soldiers in attacking Iraq as a mission from God.
Now out of office, Chirac recounts that the American leader appealed to their “common faith” (Christianity) and told him: “Gog and Magog are at work in the Middle East…. The biblical prophecies are being fulfilled…. This confrontation is willed by God, who wants to use this conflict to erase his people’s enemies before a New Age begins.”
This bizarre episode occurred while the White House was assembling its “coalition of the willing” to unleash the Iraq invasion. Chirac says he was boggled by Bush’s call and “wondered how someone could be so superficial and fanatical in their beliefs.”
After the 2003 call, the puzzled French leader didn’t comply with Bush’s request. Instead, his staff asked Thomas Romer, a theologian at the University of Lausanne, to analyze the weird appeal. Dr. Romer explained that the Old Testament book of Ezekiel contains two chapters (38 and 39) in which God rages against Gog and Magog, sinister and mysterious forces menacing Israel. Jehovah vows to smite them savagely, to “turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws,” and slaughter them ruthlessly. In the New Testament, the mystical book of Revelation envisions Gog and Magog gathering nations for battle, “and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.”
In 2007, Dr. Romer recounted Bush’s strange behavior in Lausanne University’s review, Allez Savoir. A French-language Swiss newspaper, Le Matin Dimanche, printed a sarcastic account titled: “When President George W. Bush Saw the Prophesies of the Bible Coming to Pass.” France’s La Liberte likewise spoofed it under the headline “A Small Scoop on Bush, Chirac, God, Gog and Magog.” But other news media missed the amazing report.
Subsequently, ex-President Chirac confirmed the nutty event in a long interview with French journalist Jean-Claude Maurice, who tells the tale in his new book, Si Vous le Répétez, Je Démentirai (If You Repeat it, I Will Deny), released in March by the publisher Plon.

DeMint’s amendment would ban women and their doctors from discussing abortion over the Internet:

Anti-choice Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) just filed an anti-choice amendment to a bill related to agriculture, transportation, housing, and other programs. The DeMint amendment could bar discussion of abortion over the Internet and through videoconferencing, even if a woman’s health is at risk and if this kind of communication with her doctor is her best option to receive care.

Under this amendment, women would need a separate, segregated Internet just for talking about abortion care with their doctors.

Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, said DeMint is essentially mandating “an abortion-only version of Skype.” She points out that a woman with high-risk pregnancy talking to her doctor through video conferencing would have to somehow switch to a separate communications system if abortion came up at all. “It is impractical, ridiculous, and, most importantly, bad for women in rural or remote areas who would not be able to discuss the full set of options with their doctor,” Keenan said.

DeMint’s bill is yet another Republican attempt to circumvent women’s constitutional right to an abortion by essentially outlawing doctors from discussing that option with their patients. These so-called “small government” conservatives have no problem inserting government into private conversations between women and their doctors.

    Unconstitutional, unenforceable, and mind-bogglingly intrusive.

Oh, and stupid. It's stupid, too.
Which is why it should be widely ignored as it doesn't have any possibility of ever getting off the floor. It probably won't be though.

Cue hundreds of W supporters and pundits saying this is a ridiculous, false claim while still backing the idea of it at the same time.

Directly seems to bar one's right to free speech to use the word "abortion", doesn't it? Almost like they'd rather we use the phrase, "BABY MURDER" in lieu of it.

I'd heard it was the case, but Cain's screwing himself right out of the lead with the 9-9-9 plan. It places more stringent weight upon the bottom 80%, and gives breaks to the top 20%... as the 99% folks at OWS have a great majority agreeing the top percentage need to contribute more taxes, to create infrastructure jobs, if they won't just create those jobs themselves.

Nice hypothetical battle between two African American candidates for the presidency while it lasted.

Ah, and remember how horrible the French were for not helping us back in 2003, that we created Freedom Fries? Turns out, they were the sane ones. Although, I doubt any conservative will ever admit to that.

GOP claims about the new GOP jobs plan is rated as ludicrous!

    The Pinocchio Test[/URL][/B]

The 5 million figure cited by Paul, and echoed by other Republicans, is ludicrous. Even if one accepts the studies that came up with the figures, in most cases they indicate the GOP proposals would do little to create jobs in the near future.
The one exception is repatriation, but Republicans can’t have their cake and eat it too. If they are so convinced that Obama’s stimulus was a failure, they shouldn’t cite a study that uses a methodology that concludes the stimulus was a success.

I did make an effort to spread the Gog and Magog story at the time.

And... the American Jobs Bill failed to pass in the Senate, getting a 50-50 vote split, instead of the 60 necessary to pass.

Not a single Republican voted for it, of course. After the GOP made big gains in Congress in 2010, promising folks jobs, they not only refuse to vote for plans that would tax the rich and create them... they still haven't managed to pitch a signifcant jobs bill of their own that's seen the floor of the House, or Senate.

Party of NO at work. Which, does no work.

That's the really damning bit. When an opposition party opposes something, they usually propose an alternative as well.
