beautiful pencils.
Sometimes his finished work does not look as sharp - I now know it is the inker's fault. His pencils are great
I am marginally excited about this. I have been a fan of Davis's for two decades and his art is always terrific. And I love Cap and Brubaker.
But, on the other hand, Avengers Prime was my least favorite comic since the Storm/Masters marriage was retconned. The excitement that I do have comes from the fact that I don't blame that book's characterization on Davis (although, that probably isn't completely fair since the artist has a huge impact on how the story is read).
Not to dismiss previous artists' work--but Alan Davis is absolutely sublime. I'll assume Mark Farmer is inking?
Holy cow. Those are gorgeous pencils. Davis makes it look so easy.
Dated style but still gorgeous.![]()
Top 10: Hawkguy, GIJoe Cobra, The Massive, Daredevil, Wonder Woman, Fury MAX, The Black Beetle, Batman, Winter Soldier, Suicide Squad, and The Activity.
McNiven is sucking out allll the joy I could possibly get from Brubaker's Captain America right now. He even made fighting a giant Captain America robot boring, and that takes some talent! So ready for Alan Davis to get in here and show everybody how its done.
Alan's work inspires me to get back to the drawing table... I'd love to see a video of him making a page --
One of the all time greatests.
Peace
There's a reason they're not showing just any old pencils from Comic #A. McNiven runs from "pretty good" to "really cool" but Davis on his own has a tough time dipping below "excellent."
Such beautiful art!
Who is the lady with the great legs? Madame Hydra?
"I want to see beautiful people doing amazing things." - Grant Morrison
The lady with the legs appears to be the new Madame Hydra yes, or rather, QUEEN Hydra. She hails from an extra-dimensional world, another plane of existence where the terrain is shapeable with your very thoughts, a place where all of your subconscious is made real.
...
...Yeah... She's the evil version of the Princess from Little Nemo. ( quite literally, if you read into the story and whom Jimmy Jupiter is)
Shocked at the negativity on this thread, i mean i LOVE me some Alan Davis (one of my faves going back to at least 90s Excalibur) but McNiven is in another league (from 99% of comic artists IMHO). Just a modern master.
============ Just say "NO!" to $4 books. ============
It's insane how good this guy is.
Pretty safe bet. Not to take anything away from Farmer, who has always done a great job, but I wouldn't mind seeing Davis' pencils inked by someone else (including Davis himself). And while I'm generally not a big fan of books that feature colors applied directly over uninked pencils, I'd like to see Davis' stuff in that format, at least once; I think his pencils are so solid and complete (without being overworked) that they'd come through really well.
