Yes, they can reuse it, but that's only apart of the system. And having the engine doesn't promise success, as Squarenix's first shot at a game using the Unreal engine showed.
Yeah, but in a lot of cases, you'd think a well designed engine is going to save money if the designer, etc put a decent amount of time into the rest of it. And really, nothing promises success except a good game. Gamers are typically picky. And rightfully so, really.

Dragon's Dogma is using Capcom's MT Framework, which they've used on the Dead Rising, Lost Planet and Marvel vs Capcom 3 games, Resident Evil 5, Devil May Cry 4, and Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes.
No, I was speaking in generalities, not those games... I haven't played any but RE5.

Except on handhelds, where they dominate.
I hadn't really noticed until you mentioned it. Hopefully that means good competition and better games, then.

I'm definitely going to get this. Probably for my birthday in August.

You're right and I agree but I can also see what Jadeskies is saying about it being an American fantasy setting, or at least a Western one. I suppose American fantasy is more lacking in dwarves, elves and other races than European ones? I don't know about the little differences. However, I think Dragon's Dogma combines the best of both worlds. There's something about the city that seems like it comes out of a Japanese RPG. Just the layout of it with the small pig pen off to one side and stuff ... it makes me think more of Zelda than Fable. Little things.

And it's full of creatures from Greek myths, of course. Does them quite well, too, from what I can tell.

I downloaded the demo today and what can I say? I loved it! I have a new favourite character creator. You can create children!

Yeah, I must have played through the demo 10 times. I wish you had more time to play around with the combat, but it's good either way. Definitely day one.

was I the only one that was having frame rate issues?
the movement just feels awkward and grabbing onto enemies looks incredibly stupid, why didn't they just do what Shadow of the Colossus did?

I was sorta on the fence but the demo I dunno it sort of put me off, I'll wait for reviews but I'm thinking this'll be another Reckoning :( good game just not for me
