    Default Dragon's Dogma

Has anyone heard about this game? It's got me intrigued to say the least. Honestly it seems like it has a lot in common with Elder Scrolls games.

A woman can move a lot faster with her skirt up than a man can with his pants down.

It looks like a lot of games are using the Oblivion style of gaming lately, dead souls, Kingdoms of Amalure: Reconing, and now this.

None of those games resemble Elder Scrolls. Especially not Dark Souls (I'm assuming that's what you meant).

    Never heard of it.
I might get this, it's only coming out March next year anyway.
'The marquis. Well, you know, to be honest, he seems a little bit dodgy to me.'
'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."

Open worlds, american fantasy settings, realistic backgrounds, design your own character face, archers, swordsmen, mages. You're right, they don't resemble Elder Scrolls at all.

I can't tell if you're being serious right now.

Yeah, they've been showing bits of the game off since E3, maybe even a little before. So far it looks really good.

    What's American about it?

I think he meant western, like it's looking to have more in common with the western RPG fantasy aesthetic that pulls from D&D (which is American) and LotR (but really more the D&D version), then a JRPG aesthetic.

Since most video games are either made in America or Japan I call it American and not Western. With the exception of the French Deus Ex Machina: Human Revolution there have not been a ton of games coming out of europe.

Halo/God of War/Oblivion/Mortal Combat is a decidedly American style game and Final Fantasy/Street Fighter/Pokemon/mechwarrior is a decidedly Japanese style game. If you compare Oblivion to Final Fantasy you will see what I mean by it being an American Style.

Bethesda is in Maryland and the game is made by Americans so I think I am very much in the right to call it an American game.

It's a distinctly European style fantasy setting though. Just because most American fantasy copies Tolkien and Shakespear doesn't mean they retroactive become yanks.

Griphons, knights in armour, fairies, castles... that sort of thing?

I think it would be interesting if someone played all 4 games and compared them. Dogma is made by Capcom which is a Japanese company so it will be interesting to see how it compares in style to the other American Companies.

In an interview on 'The Instance' podcast this week the creator of Reckoning said they have 60 hours of gameplay just for 1/4th of the game content, so it won't be me as I dont have that much time. :)

How aren't they alike? They're all open world action oriented RPGs drawing on the same D&D Tolkienesque fantasy setting, with character customization.
