I was blown away by Detective Comics #1. Tony Daniel has really started to come into his own as a writer with this issue.

    Default But... 'Savage Hawkman'?

's great, Tony . . . but where are the teasers and promo interviews, etc., for Savage Hawkman? I wish every success for you and for DC regarding your bat-work, but I'm a Hawkfan, not a Batman fan, man. DC and Tony, could we few, we happy few, we the seemingly disenfranchised minority of Hawkman fans and supporters, get a little more attention here? No, HERE! Over HERE!!

He absolutely is, and if the first issue is any indication, TEC couldn't be in better hands.

glad to see that people are enjoying Tony's work on Dectective. I have been a supporter of his for awhile now and loved his work on Batman. So cool to see positive responses and not negative!
I am also very eager to see what he is going to do with Hawkman. I have never really been a paticular fan of Hawkman, but saw Tony on the new title and am going to be giving it a try.

Yeah, I was very pleased with the first issue and am very much looking forward to the second; but, right now, I think all the Batman books are pretty good!

Upon reading Detective #1 I had to double check if this was Daniels because this was such a great solid issue, and I've been enjoy his stuff since "Life After Death" arc. Keep it up!

I really enjoyed 'Tec #1 but would it have been too much to ask for Mr. Daniel to address some of the apparent issues with number 1, namely the timeline confusion and why this book has nothing to do with the other new Bat #1s or anything else that came before it?
Who wants to save the world? That's what misers do...

I do think this book is the odd duck of the Bat books. It's presentation and characterizations seem out of keeping with the other books -- it has a real Year One feel to it, I think.

Detective could be in the hands of a much better writer, I continue to find Daniel a trite bore at writing (and now mucking up continuity). Artwise, Daniel is just fine, better even.

Very disappointed CBR didn't address the status quo seeming contradictions Daniel fills Tec #1 with. They talk about Jeremiah, without even bringing up Black Mask Jeremiah, inmate of Arkham, from Batman #1. (And don't say Tec #1 is set in the past, Daniel has been quite clear it is not set in the past, but rather the present (however it SHOULD just be set in the past))

CBR: Ask questions CBR posters (and DC Message board posters) actually want to know the answer to!

DC discarded their history, and now has none. DC will always be in the shadows of their past work.

I pre-ordered 'Tec just because it was Detective Comics #1, without expecting much because of all the bad reviews Tony Daniel gets online. It turned out to be one of my favorite titles from the relaunch, and I've bought more than half of what came out. I love most of the story and the art. What I do is just pretend that those word balloons and thought captions where batman says "I own the night" "I am gotham" "does joker always take his clothes off before he murders people" dont exist. Same goes for the action figure anatomy of Batman when he first appears with Gordon. Take those out and it's an overall great story. In the first week the only titles I enjoyed more were animal man and swamp thing. I enjoyed it as much as I did Action Comics.

I'm so surprised by these posts.

    Detective was barely even average.

My final verdict on 'Tec right now is that it makes no sense in the context of Post-Incorporated Batman's status quo and the modern DCU ...

But I think I'm okay with that. I mean, I liked it. I like the sense of style Tony gives Joker (His R.I.P. Joker was cool, now it seems he's blended his more "60's Flashback, Cesar Romero fused with Dick Sprang" Joker with a bit of the Frazer Irving "Joker can wear black, too" creepy dandy.

I thought the ridiculous shock value ending was just that. But I mean, I can't name a thing I purely dislike about the story besides the preposterous ending.

You're entitled to your opinion, of course. I thought Daniel did a wonderful job with both his writing and art.
