This is great. I want to be a writer myself, but I've been so devastated by my lack of ability to meet my own standards that I have often lazily chosen not to write at all. Only now am I beginning to build momentum and write more....
The real turning point for me was when I started calling myself "a writer" not just inwardly, but outwardly. A large part of my problem was that I simply wasn't comfortable with putting myself out there, but now that I have, its motivated me to live up to the title of "writer" that I've claimed in front of people.
So, basically, thanks for this article. Very inspiring.

Great article, Ron.
I'm still working my way toward getting published, and my son is an aspiring writer, too.
I was thrilled the other day when he showed me a few pages of a comic script. Nine years old, and if I taught him nothing else, he now knows how to write offpanel dialogue and captions!
Look forward to reading Voodoo.

Thanks Ron... always nice to get the occasional kick up the arse.
"...confuse 'writing' with 'typing'."
A true golden nugget there, Ron![]()
You'll have to tell her to write down all of this, too :D
This is a fantastic article, I like the generalizations rather than any specifics (and the story re Jurgens/Salvatore is a nice touch as well...)
"Make yourself comfortable, I haven’t time to attend to it." - With these words, a legend was born.
All true,I'm sure. I recommend that folks who are still interested in becoming...and this is specific...a 'professional writer' google John Scalzi and his own book on this.
I have no interest in being a professional writer-- but I do write and I draw. Not worried about being a pro-- just writinganddrawing and not so much the paycheck.
