I'm old as hell, but Voltron is still m'boy. Loved the Devil's Due's run when they had the license (hated how they wrapped it up, though), but if Dynamite's version is just half as good, it should be a fun ride.

Never heard of this character. Is that from a Japanese cartoon?
It's derived from a Japanese cartoon (or anime) called Beast King GoLion that was "Americanized" into a new series called Voltron: Defender of the Universe in the mid-80s. Basically, it's five robot lion ships that can merge to create a bigger, powerful robot called Voltron that fights against evil aliens.
It came from the same era as the original Transformers and G.I. Joe cartoons and was syndicated on weekday afternoons. An updated sequel to Voltron: Defender of the Universe began running on the Nicktoons network a few months ago.

That one was an adaptation of Armored Fleet Dairugger XV. That involved 15 vehicles that could form into 3 larger vehicles for different environments. When there's big trouble, however, they could merge into a different kind of Voltron (known in some circles as "Voltron I").
There was a proposed third Voltron (consiting of three merged robots) that would have been based off of Mirai Robo Daltanious, but this only saw the light of day as a toy (known as "Voltron II").

Awesome news! I've always liked Voltron. I use to watch the reruns, and had a ton of Voltron VHS tapes. I saw the first season on dvd at Walmart the other day, and it made me want to see some new Voltron adventures(not counting the new cartoon show, I'm not sure what I think of that yet).
I'm interested in checking this book out when it hits, but I hope Dynamite does a good job with it.

Comics still reading: Saga, Sixth Gun, Walking Dead, All New X-Men, Daredevil, Fury MAX. DC New 52 isn't the worth the paper its printed on...
Yep. Voltron: Fleet of Doom. A special hour-long episode made solely for the U.S. as they never appeared together in the original Japanese shows.
It was pretty much the finale of the original Voltron series in which the two Voltrons fought side-by-side against a common enemy.
