Again, boxing used to be a major sport in this country and it isn't anymore, it has been surpassed by MMA. Statements to the contrary are the bullshit here.

Manny's wife from an ESPN article is pushing her husband to retire finally. That he's 38 and has won world titles and has nothing left to prove to anyone. I can understand her fear when he fell on the mat and laid there. He has money and more. I'd hate to see him become like an Evander Holyfield and keep fighting til he really shouldn't.

Donaire's the Fighter of the Year, IMO. Moved up to Super bantamweight and has beaten 4 very good fighters. Retired 2 greats in Arce and Nishioka, and beat Mathebula and Vasquez, who are both excellent boxers.

I miiiight just be biased there though.

Errr... not sure I'd agree with that. I love MMA, but I don't think it has reached boxing's level yet. The departure of Lesnar in particular kinda slowed it down. It likely will soon, but it hasn't yet.

And internationally, it's still boxing, by some distance.

This is what I hate about fair weather fans. "There's only one or two big names."

If you a true fan, you should be doing your part building up the next big names.

    There isn't just Manny.

There's Froch. There's Kessler. There's Abrammov. There's lil Nonito. Gamboa, Mallinaggi, Jose "have to kill me" Arce, Andre Ward, Amir Kahn, Austin Trout, Tim Bradley, Juan Ma, Saul "Canello" Alvarez.

And I don't follow Boxing much. I know these guys.
Im not claming to be fan because i only followed heavy weight boxning before. Manny and the Klitschko Borthers were the only big boxning names that got media attention around here. Im not talking about all the good boxers out there and known to boxning fans. But the most mainstream names today like the old champion when Boxning was big international famous sport. You get UFC,MMA fights weekly on tv and you see only Manny and Klitschko fights of boxning.

Mayweather Jabare mentioned does he still box?
    Pull List:

Nobody's given a damn about Heavyweight boxing since Lennox Lewis retired.

I'm sure somebody somewhere gives a damn about the Klitschkos but nobody I know personally does. And all my buds tend to be Boxing fans who are pretty damn indifferent to MMA.

Tyson fought on network back in the day. So did all the fighters from the lower divisions until you get to Camacho's era. You knew who everybody was because you saw them on network back in the day. The casual fight fans now doesn't know who any of these dudes are and for 50 bucks a pop on pay per view, there is no reason why they should care either. Dudes root for either Manny or Mayweather or if they have a little more knowledge they'll root for the local boy.

Here in New York Zab Judah's a really big deal because he's a New Yorker.

The ONLY thing that Boxing has over MMA right now is the national hero angle, guys like Pac and Ricky Hatton are national heroes/icons.

I can't think of an MMA fighter who is that big of a deal in thier own country let alone on an international level.

GSP and Anderson Silva would come close, I'd reckon, but they wouldn't have the same level of mainstream attention.

Also the Klits are megastars in Europe, but yeah no one really cares elsewhere.

MMA will not surpass Boxing until there are suficiant and competent ACs who will be willing to create entirely different offices for the sport.

Until we get MMA out of the hands of Boxing, most of the states will look like Michigan. An AC whose members wrecked the future of the sport primarily due to party loyalty. Uneven matches unrecorded and ill staffed...because the person who ratified the sport legal was a Democrat.

Bah! I posted that yesterday! :p

Oh yeah, definitely. He's been through some wars. I wouldn't begrudge him anything if he retired tomorrow.

If he does fight once more... I think it should be against Tim Bradley and be for the titles he holds. It pays off the last fight where it ended in controversy. This one can be his last one. He beats Bradley , he can retire as champion. If he loses he can say he tried one last time. Either way he has his 62nd fight and he can retire.
