It's something that the Democrats do as well.
I'm not sure if any federal issue demonstrates that flipping better than debates over the debt ceiling. Because as much as any issue can be exactly the same, without contributing factors that can be blamed, the debt ceiling debate is virtually the same every single time. The arguments are the same, the contributing factors are the same, the consequences are the same.

But during Dubya's terms, the Democrats regularly blew gaskets over the raising of the debt limit, while the Republicans were OK with it. Then when Obama was in office and needed to do the exact same thing, it was Republicans that were threatening to stop the raise while Democrats made nary a peep.

    yeah, true.
I was probably too snarky in my comment, but it really does come down to a 'my side, your side' kind of thing on a lot of these issues.

That's a great example. I'd like to think that it was just the reason for raising the debt ceiling that accounted for the difference since it was a belated opportunity to complain about Iraq, but I think that most of it was just taking advantage of the opportunity to make the other party sweat.

I think that the negotiations over the last raise were a bit more extreme.

It's like my uncle's two male dogs. Sometimes King would mount and hump Zach, and Zach would get really annoyed, like "hey, hey, none of that gay stuff." Then a little while later, Zach would mount King, and King would be the one getting annoyed. It's all a matter of who is on top, not what is objectively right or wrong.

They probably wrote the wikipedia article themselves that they use as the only source for their journalism masterpiece.

    Yes.
Romney hasn't a fifth of the charisma, and has an astounding lack of empathy for the plight of the American people in this economic crisis.
Of course, lots of things can happen between now and November, but right now, he's Dole 2.0, a sacrifice by the GOP.

In a roundabout way, Mitt Romney admitted yesterday that Jimmy Carter was a better president than Mitt could ever hope to be.

Romney on the bin Laden Raid: "Even Jimmy Carter would have made that decision." Y'know, the same decisions Mitt was criticizing Obama on in 2007 and 2008, and claimed he thought were too far.

Of course, now that in hindsight, that it WAS the right call, Romney is trying to re-write his political stance, to claim he always would have done the same thing as Obama did, just like any other president would have. I'd call him a disengenuous snake, but that would be a slight to snakes everywhere.

it's either lack of empathy or a genuine ignorance that not everyone has an investment portfolio and multiple residences

honestly there are a lot of people like Romney who shelter themselves and don't know or choose to not know that there are people out there, working a 50-60 hr a week job and barely making enough to stay fed
