I'm not sure if that's quite right. He says that he got interested in Ayn Rand in the early 60s and Rand was born in 1963. He didn't first run for office until 1971. But I definitely agree that it's two-pronged. He's trying to develop his message and help out his son - which pushing his message will do.
Now, can you guess which one wants to double student loan interest rates, and which one doesn't?

"He actually amnesty them!"
By this point, how can anybody possibly know what Romney actually wants to do? He'll just say anything.
'The marquis. Well, you know, to be honest, he seems a little bit dodgy to me.'
'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."
A few weeks ago, Slate's Dave Weigel ran a story that, just in passing, referred to Newark Mayor Cory Booker as a sort of New Jersey Jack Hawksmoor.
Less obscure, but still fun to see, is this headline of his from Friday: On Earth-2, is Rick Santorum Locking Down the GOP Nomination?
Speaking of which, the GOP are beginning to whine that the Obama campaign is "politicizing the death of Osama bin Laden for gains in the election".
Because, y'know, we're at the one year anniversary of the raid, so some of the news channels (not FOX) have mentioned it. And one campaign ad that points out Romney criticized the policy of unilaterally entering a country on a raid to kill him, which is exactly what needed to be done to get the son of a bitch.

the Pres. Obama/Veep Biden campaign could bring it up everyday until the election and it still wouldn't come close to how much the repubs used 9/11 for political gain (and to silence any dissent)
I guess the even more hypocritical thing about the Republicans bitching about Obama politicizing the bin Laden raid...
I remember George W. Bush strutting around about the capture of Saddam Hussein and how much better it made the world after he was caught in late 2003, through the 2004 election.

My blog.
We struggled against apartheid in South Africa, supported by people the world over, because black people were being blamed and made to suffer for something we could do nothing about; our very skins. It is the same with sexual orientation. It is a given.

I think that the more pertinent difference was that it was for their side. Not everything that the Republicans do is a dog whistle. They were bitching about Clinton plenty during the Dubya years, mocking his concern over bin Laden and the bombing raids in Iraq to go after WMDs - only to reverse course once their guy was in office.
It's something that the Democrats do as well.
