When you say that, do you mean stuff like Cole Porter songs, or Cindy Lauper ballads? "Old" is such a relative term.

I'm almost strictly a soul man, 60s and 70s, often obscure stuff. But I will also listen to singer-songwriters like Carole King and Joni Mitchell. Some Jazz, a little Hip Hop here and there.
    My blog.

We struggled against apartheid in South Africa, supported by people the world over, because black people were being blamed and made to suffer for something we could do nothing about; our very skins. It is the same with sexual orientation. It is a given.

Anything but country, with the possibly sole exception being Johnny Cash.

    Mostly: Rock | Classic Rock | Alternative Rock | Punk | New Wave | Soul | Funk | R&B | Ska | Reggae | Jazz | Blues

I'd say "romantic" needs to be clarified, as well. There are even some quite romantic punk songs out there.

Pre-punk Velvet Underground/Stooges/Suicide/Patti Smith stuff like that.

Also Glam Rock like Bowie, T. Rex, Slade.

Alternative like Ween/ Butthole Surfers/ Nirvana.

Alot of bands from Manchester are great, Oasis, The Smiths, Stone Roses, Happy Monday, The Hollies.

Industiral stuff like Skinny Puppy, Ministry, some Nine Inch Nails.

Mostly different kinds of rock with some trip-hop (Pusicfer, Massive Attack, Portishead) thrown in there.

    Traditional Irish/Scottish
New Age Celtic (Enya, Loreena McKennitt)
    Celtic Fusion
    Scottish Rock
    Traditional Country
    Bluegrass/Newgrass
Traditional Folk and Folk-Rock (English, Scottish, Irish, American, Swedish)

I'll listen to anything, but those are my favorites.

    -Black Metal
and regular metal and various off-shoot genres
-Punk and protopunk bands like the VU, Stooges, NY Dolls, MC5, etc.
    -Alternative
-Rock (from it's inception to about 1995)
    -Classical (i love piano)
    (i'm forgetting what else)

but i despise Rap, Hip Hop, and stuff like that. but oddly i like RATM and FNM- maybe because they're mixing the rap element with rock.

in my opinion- Beethoven's Symphony No.9 (in it's entirety) is the greatest piece of music that humanity has produced.

it can be performed without electricity, which totally falls in favor with me. i actually find it funny sometimes that punk, alternative, and even black metal bands use the "corporate enemy's" electricity. heh heh heh

In the past few years, I've kind of developed a fondness for folk/pagan metal. Otherwise, I'm not much of a metalhead. This is particularly true of Slavic folk/pagan groups, because of my fondness for Slavic everything.

I like a little bit of everything, but too much of any one thing bores me to death.

I have a favorite song in most genres, but I have way more Motown, funk, tango/neo tango, and blues songs than anything else.

The only Genre (or maybe it's a sub-genre ?) that i have no tract with is Avant-Garde Jazz to me it sounds like a bunch of untrained musicians with no ability to be in synch with each other.

Also don't care for Broadway Show-tunes and Opera but i respect their existence and i think they are both valid art forms.

In my age i find myself attracted to a lot of rootsy type stuff for some reason.

I listened to Mark Lanegan's Whiskey for the Holy Ghost the other night and i just find it so affecting and honest and yet very soothing.
