I Started reading comics when kick-ass 2 #1 came out because I loved the movie and I fell in love with comics. I started reading through Mark Millar's catalogue and then I spent many back-hours reading back issues of DC series, particularly batman, detective comics, and other runs I heard were good like the old Suicide Squad's and Sandman Mystery Theater. The new 52 did get me into some stuff like Resurrection Man and Aquaman but I spent way too much time reading through old back issues, mostly vertigo and dc stuff like I said

Yup. I was always interested in DC yet never tried comics. When I heard of the 52 reboot I tried it out. Now my pull list is Batman, Detective, and Justice League. I am thinking of adding Swamp Thing and Animal man as the story is great and JL is on my short drop list if it doesn't pick up for me. I'm tempted to add Action also. These things add up quick though so I may stick to my main Bat books and move to trades for the rest.

I read Scott Pilgrim, then a bunch of trades at my library, got interested enough to buy a couple. This was mid last year, just as the reboot was announced. I started getting single issues post-reboot. I jumped on about 2/3 months too early, so I'm simultaneously a new reader but fond enough of large portions of the old status quo to get occassional intense fan rage.

OP, Red Hood is definitely worth it, by far the best of Lobdell's books, the art and colouring is the best in the line, each issue has a complete story and it is probably the best in the line for introducing new concepts and overturning a status quo and making it not suck, but keeping old elements sufficient to keep the characters familiar.

Of the other titles you're considering, the only one I've read is Teen Titans, which I run hot and cold on. There is great dialogue in conversations, but often way too much exposition get chucks in. The art varies between ugly and garish but good. The story is taking too long, but once the first arc is over, after a 3 way crossover, I expect it to pick up.

I bought the singles of Hush a few years ago but never collected. Then I heard about the reboot and visited my LCS. I also read through the reviews and the forums on CBR to get suggestions on what to collect. Now I'm collecting Batman, Justice League, Flash, Action Comics and Birds of Prey. For Marvel, I get WATXM, Uncanny X-Force, Daredevil and Avenging Spider-Man. I tried Uncanny X-Men but didn't like it. I also got the first few issues of Aquaman but had to drop it because the hobby is getting too expensive... Will probably drop AVSM, BoP, DD for the same reasons.

While I'd always been interested in some of the characters and read a few books here and there, the New 52 definitely got me back on board in a major way. I must be reading almost 30 titles per month...while probably 2/3 are from the New 52, I'm also reading Ultimate Spider-Man, Daredevil, and Punisher from marvel as well as a few vertigo and image books. My OCD tendencies don't help when it comes to having to drop a comic either, so this hobby is certainly becoming expensive. Good times, though.

I used to read comics but haven't for a while (I have a collection of Hush). I was randomly surfing the internet late last year and saw the news on the reboot. I think I saw it on this site. I read through the reviews and forums and tried out a couple. Now my pull list is firming up. I choose the comics based on art and story, but more for the art. I also like the idea of being able to pass on my collection to my kids eventually. I buy all paper books, but am thinking of getting some of them in digital format to save closet space. Now this is what I'm collecting:

    DC:
    Batman
    Justice League
    Flash
Action (thinking of getting in digital after arc ends)
Birds of Prey (will drop after arc ends for budget reasons)

    Marvel:
    WATXM
    UXF
DD (will drop after arc ends for budget reasons)
    Avenging Spider-Man (will drop)

I also have since dropped these titles:
Uncanny X-Men (didn't like the story and art)
    Aquaman (dropped for budget reasons)

This is what's killing me too, haha. I'm a little reluctant to get the #1's of all the titles I listed since if I like one, I'd have to pick up the rest of its issues immediately and keep it on my pull list.

Just got back into comics this past year. Used to be really into some stuff back in the 90's (New Warriors, Savage Dragon, The Ray, Damage, X-factor). Then life happened (by life i mean college, hockey and alcohol, followed by job.. and hockey.. and alcohol.. and there's wedding in there somewhere too.)

I saw DC was redoing everything and my subconscious used that as the perfect excuse i needed to get back into the swing of things. Course, most of the characters i liked have drastically changed (Dead, MIA or no longer exists? waaah) but that gives me a lot of stuff to catch up on (though wikipedia helps a lot) and the opportunity to try out lots of different new stuff.

And I figure if Erik Larsen is STILL writing Savage Dragon.. then i should probably STILL read it (i'm not even that old and i feel like it was forever ago when that title started.. kudos)

and now i can give DC a fair shot at gaining my readership. We'll see how well it works.

I started really getting back into DC Comics in 1989 Tim Burton Batman sucked me back in - and have been back ever since. I read Fantastic Four and Avengers, but I started on DC back in 1966 - Batman again! The REAL batman, Adam West!! - thanks to my uncle giving me a stack of Justice League, Batman, Detective, Sea Devils, Challengers of the Unknown, Doom Patrol, Superman family, Action Comics, and Dial H for Hero comic books (and a bunch of MAD!), and I was hooked for life! I really love the DC characters, the universe - it's just too much fun, even for a geezer like me!

And, I spread the owrd to my nieces and nephews today - passing it forward, ya know!

As a fellow “geezer”, I enjoyed your post. It’s nice to see older readers still enjoying the new stuff, while still appreciating the history of comics. By the way, Adam West is the definitive Batman for me as well.

I am likewise very compulsive. For example, I just purchased Aquaman issues #1-3, and ordered from another online comic shop issues #4-6 and The Flash #1-6 from another online comic shop simply because I like the input I heard about these titles here on this site. I since received the first three issues of Aquaman yesterday and read them all immediately though abit early to voice an opinion yet. But I like the direction Johns is taking Arthur and Mera. Aquaman is once again a respectable superhero after being lampooned mostly for his Saturday morning Super Friends image and he has shed all his PAD incarnations and those gnarly body modifications.
