There seemed to be a real difference between the style of comics DC was putting out in the 70s vs what Marvel was grinding out in the 70s. DC seemed to catch on to what Marvel was doing some time later, but by then, I was well into Marvel and for me to pick up an issue of say, The Flash or Green Lantern...I mean....I just wasn't connected to DC the way I was to Marvel. I knew something about virtually every Marvel character...whereas, aside from the main characters, I knew nothing about the DC universe.

Marvel developed a bad habit of blowing off complaints of various readers...I stopped reading Thor not long after Fraction started writing it (he's a great writer, I just think he should stick to X-men titles...)...and my favorite character, the Surfer (Defenders is currently the only magazine I read by Marvel).

So, I guess you could say I was ripe for the picking. The new 52 seemed like a great new starting point for me. So, here I am.

    Hi, I'm Rory

I'm new to comics as in buying comics monthly, and reading them that way, but I've always read graphic novels on occasion and my interest just grew over time.

I'm 23 and the first comic I ever read was a 1959 "Adventure Book for Boys" that used to belong to my uncle. After that I didn't really get into the medium until I was a teen and read The Watchmen, I then started things like Sandman, and other Alan Moore stuff like the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, From Hell etc. and from there I moved to some Batman graphic novels.

When the New 52 news started spreading I decided that was my time to jump in. I subscribed straight off from an online retailer (not many comic shops in Bolton, England) to 'Batman', 'Batman: The Dark Knight', 'Detective Comics', 'Justice League' and 'Resurrection Man'.

I've since stopped buying Resurrection Man but added Huntress, Penguin: Pain and Prejudice, American Vampire and Severed. Yes, I like Scott Snyder.

Today I bought a copy of Detective comics from November 1988, when I was born. I think it's pretty cool.

I urge you to check out batwoman if you're keen on a ridiculously good bat title. Also swamp thing if you like Scott Snyder.

I've read some of both, and very much enjoyed them. I get a certain satisfaction from looking at the comics I have stored starting from #1 but I have a pang of regret every time I look at Resurrection Man that it isn't Swamp Thing, but I'm too cash-strapped to catch up.

Didn't see this till now. I'm 24 and have liked comics in the past. Borrowed friends trades here and there. Read Watchmen and Red Son. Critically acclaimed stuff but the glut of history was too intimidating to fully dive in. New 52 let me go at comics full speed and really geek out over them.

It's funny how like....not geeky comics are in my circle of friends. I assistant instruct at a brazilian jiu jitsu school full of big, tough dudes and it's not uncommon for me to stroll and and have one of them ask me to read a copy of one of my comics while they wait to roll.

But yeah, reading everything DC I can.

I've been a fan of DC ever since I saw the Batman anmiated series. Never got into comics because the large numbering on the titles made it feel intimidating. The new 52 was a great jumping on point.

I'm with the dude above me. I have never read a comic before, ever! That is until the new 52 came out. I agree that it is a great starting point. I've really enjoyed reading these new comics! Thank God for the reboot!

Hi, I'm new to this forum and recently jumped into DC with the new 52. I'm 15 and started reading comics through newspaper strips that my dad use to buy. In elementary school I would order comics through scholastic like W.I.T.C.H. and shonen jump. I also use to read Bones and am very into manga. I learned about the 52 from my friend who is a DC fan. Now I'm reading Action, Batman, Batgirl, Batwoman, Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Voodoo, and Justice League. :)

    Hey,
My name is Miguel. I'm 12 years old. I started reading comic books about 2 years back. I mostly only read the Amazing Spider-man and the Avengers. I didn't read any DC. When I heard about the new 52 I saw a good opportunity to start reading DC. I'm currently reading Uncanny X-men, Avenging Spider-man, Avengers, Ultimate Comics Spider-man, Kick-ass 2, Green Arrow, OMAC, Static Shock, Detective Comics, Batman, Action Comics, Superman, Teen Titans, Nightwing, JLI and Green Lantern. I love comics.

    Default first post!

My name is Chris and I'm 25, my resurgence in comic book reading came with the new 52. I read comics as a kid, having Batman, Uncanny X-men, and Impulse subscriptions at various times, all while scooping up any issues of most anything I could on the side.

I have wanted to jump back in various times but always felt I would be lost given 12 or so years of gaps in continuity. But with the relaunch seemed a perfect time. Now its gotten real out of control what with a job and a little money.

Currently reading: Animal Man, Swamp Thing, Batman, Justice League Dark, Wonder Woman, Detective Comics, Uncanny X-Men, Wolverine and the X-Men, the Strange Talent of Luther Strode, Severed, Spaceman, Sweet Tooth

Really like Azzarello, Lemire, and Scott Snyder I've found. Glad to be back.

i also started with the new 52, i had never read a monthly comic before although i had read some spider man books and a couple other here and there when i was younger, im 20 now and from liverpool and decided the new 52 would be a good jumping on point for me.

I am currently reading, action comics, justice league, flash, aquaman, batman, suicide squad, red hood and i am waiting on the first couple of issues for birds of prey to see what it is like.

I have to say i am loving the comics so far and finding myself more addicted to them and this site everyday lol.

I have been on this site now since the new 52 and the community is awesome and very helpful, i urge any other new readers if you have a question to post it because the people on here are great and will help you out like they have me.

Lapsed reader/collector. My ex decimated my old collection and I started picking up a few books here and there, then the new 52 came along and hooked me into going full bore again.

One thing I like about DC is that the books are self contained. I cant follow a Marvel story from issue to issue unless I have also read all the crossovers.

Finding myself a heavy DC collector along with some independents and less and less Marvel (still like a few books).
