Default NEW READERS: Where are you coming from?

I'm seeing a lot of new posters appearing on the forum since Justice League #1 was released, many stating they are new to DC or a lapsed comic reader. I was interested in seeing just what experience you have had with comics before, if any, and how it works out with DC's stated objectives for industry growth.

Welcome and please also tell us a bit about yourselves. :)

I've been reading Marvel comics for a while and was never really interested in DC. Then I started watching the Justice League / Justice League Unlimited cartoon and it got me interested in potentially reading some DC at some point. This relaunch just seemed like a good time to do it.

Used to read them as a kid, then deliberately kicked my "nerdy habits", and now that I'm older and happier with where I'm at, I figured the new 52 is a great jump in point to one of my favorite hobbies.

I've previously read some ultimate marvel and some independent stuff. Loving digital comics and Justice League #1 was awesome, definitely getting all of the first issues so I can check each series out.

Started with Marvel but after buying blackest night on Ebay a couple years back got me into DC. The relaunch basically reeled me in to try new comics and start collecting.

Last monthly I bought was the first Azrael series in the 90s, and I stopped that about halfway through. Bought or read various trades since (all DC), with Morrison's recent Batman run really whetting my appetite to get back into monthly reading again. Relaunch seemed like the time to get back on board.

I've been reading comic books for a few years now, mostly popular titles and things recommended by friends: The Sandman, Watchmen, Morning Glories, Buffy, The Walking Dead, etc.

Honestly I've just been too intimidated/confused to leap into the DCU (or Marvel). The relaunch is the excuse I needed.

Also, I met quite a few of DC's writers and artists at FanExpo Canada this year and that only further increased the size of my pull list. I'll be picking up somewhere between eight and twelve DC titles monthly.

I don't really know if I qualify, but I haven't really bought much DC aside from Batman and Green Lantern trades. I have a few Jonah Hex issues, and Blackest Night: Tales of the Corps 1-3 from a grab bag, but I've tended to buy indies or Marvel in the past in floppy format. Now I'm jumping on with 8 of the new titles.

Kind of read them before but only for a few months and gave up because I didn't have enough money for them and other things I wanted. But I got more pocket money recently (lame I know) and know I can! Originally got reading them because I saw them in them on the Big Bang Theory and thought they looked cool.

I was introduced to comics in fifth or sixth grade when I stumbled upon a step brothers' little stack of comics; I believe this was the summer of 95 or 96. Anyway, this is the first comic I remember reading: Iron Man #288. I don't remember the story, but the cover never left my memory.

Most of my early comic book reading was back issues. The time I was ever current was when I picked up a comic at Walmart. Even though they where often in good to bad condition, it was neat having access to comics in a small Texas town. (I wish comics still showed up where I was able to read and buy them as a kid; not every kid has a LCS near them, especially now.)

I tried to get back into comics from time to time, but nothing has worked for me until know. I'm able to jump in at #1 with any DC book I want to read digitally. When Marvel goes same day digital, I will try and jump on there as well.

Well, I have always been a fan of DC Animation. Espcially the DCAU, I actually looked into comics a bit more when I saw Dick Grayson was batman now. But it was too confusing to get into still...a year later I saw this reboot and thought this was the perfect opritunity.

For all of us newbies and those who are not new and accepting the change, here's a good video that should encourage us: http://youtu.be/YdpUrfBv8Zo (Though I know the "We'll see in six months!" will be followed...)

I've been a comic book reader collector for over thirty years and while I have always been a consistent Marvel reader I do consider myself a very occasional DC reader (although I have been reading more DC in recent years).

This will definitely change with the launch of the DCnU...as I plan on purchasing and enjoying much more DC than Marvel.
