I really wish they'd do the whole reboot universe starting at Year One. A world where no one knows who the DC heroes are and if they trust them is something we haven't seen for a long time and, in the case of some franchises, ever.

Superman and Batman fight again, wow. Also that transformer thing was supposed to be a Parademon? They're joking right?
Hobos frighten me. It's time my enemies shared my dread.
I totally agree with them. Hal just became really like superman with brown hair and aquamans like superman with blond hair. Its great that theyre changing away with all those stuff giving each of them more of a personality.
Yeah, I really liked that about the issue--both Batman and Green Lantern felt like completely different people. Kinda reminded me of back when Johns was doing JSA. And with them talking about the other characters interacting, I really can't wait to see how this goes.![]()
I think it's worrisome that they're saying that it's all about character. Batman and Green Lantern in JL #1 are some of the flattest characterizations I've seen from DC in a long time. And it reads like the author trying to tell us certain things about these guys, rather than these guys actually talking like people would.
And I say all that while loving Johns' previous work on GL, Brightest Day and many other things, and looking forward to Aquaman.
Its nice to read their enthusiasm for the new series, and about their dedication to defining the distinct characters of all the JLA members. I'm looking forward to reading future issues where this actually happens.
I just wish this first issue hadn't just been a rather pedestrian team-up between Batman and Green Lantern. It felt pretty old-fashioned and light on story considering how it had been hyped so much as the beginning of the "NUDC!!!!" I'm sure glad I didn't camp out until midnight for this.
I'm getting wearing of falling for DC's unrealistic hype-machine. They seem to put much more effort into marketing than the actual comics.

I'm still hyped. And each issue after will be better than the last. Sounds good.
Yeah, this is good. I did get the sense from JL #1 that it would be very character-based, almost sitcom-ish, and I mean that in a good way. The characters bounce off each other in a way that is fun and shows off their individual personalities.
The bit about Wonder Woman being the most confident and interested in the world is intriguing, I'll be interested to see how they accomplish that.
Glad to hear that Lee is putting in extra effort to avoid delays.
I strongly disagree, that's too X-Men-ish. The world where superheroes aren't trusted is a starting point, not the status quo. It's the DCU.
Could be that there are different types of Parademons. Or something. I don't know, it's the New Gods, they have crazy technology. They've weaponized star systems. It makes sense that the minions of Darkseid would be highly advanced and adaptable.

Action Comics, American Vampire, AV: Lord of Nightmares, Atomic Robo, Batman Inc, Batwoman, The Flash, Prophet, Uncanny X-Force
Issue #1 was a rather weak introduction. It didn't even feature the whole Justice League. It didn't even have a story (you know, with a beginning, middle, and end). And the characterization was same old same old.
Is this how DC expects to hook new readers?
If I was a first time reader, I would feel there isn't much bang for the buck in comics. That you don't even get a complete story for your money. I would feel assured that I don't need comics in my life.
Great interview. This is EXACTLY what I want out of the Justice League.
Same here! I was only planning to stick around for the year one arc, but I might just continue on if the quality stays true to what Johns is saying here.
As for the transformer Parademon, I think its a great idea. Bout time we had some more creativity. Who wants to read the same thing all the time? I may be in the minority, but I like change. Otherwise the comics just get stale...
