Read The Massive and Beasts of Burden. First actual exposure to either. Rather enjoyed both, as well.

BoB was a nice little story. That ending was great. Didn't know anything about it, so I was completely taken by surprise. Well done.

The Massive was excellent. Little to go on, but I very much want more. Look forward to the next parts and the full series.

Great issue, I loved the Lobster Johnson story, the ending was pretty funny.

Some of the other features were good too, I'm really enjoying The Massive and Skultar, and I never tire of Corben's art...I can't seem to get into Concrete Park though and for some reason Tarzan does nothing for me.

I think the stand out story for me though was really 1969, I loved the look at lunar exploration and the black and white art was amazing.

I've liked Paul Pope ever since I read Batman: Year 100...but you know I don't think it's ever crossed my mind that it would be awesome to see his take on hellboy. That needs to happen.

I think he may have had a picture in one of the trades, if I remember correctly but I'd love to see a full story.

I wonder are not the stories in this anthology just short stories for DHP? I saw that alien doctor story listed as its own issue in preview catalog at local comic shop.

Massive will get its own series ?

I dont really get how some of the series work. Is DHP just a showcase before their get their own mini or ongoing series ?
    Pull List:
    The Walking Dead,Fatale,Near Death,Storm Dogs,Happy,BPRD,XO-Manowar
    American Vampire,Animal Man,Swamp Thing
    Daredevil, Winter Soldier,Indestructible Hulk

Doesn't that depend per title? Hellboy or Beasts of Burden are already acclaimed titles obviously, where new things might get to become such, or they might remain just features?

Just like how DHP has always been: Matt Wagner's "The Aviator" never became big, Geof Darrow did both fun bits as well as recurring stuff for reappearing in titles of its own or either not.

It's playfully variable y'know? Like Jazz or Free-Funk!!
Been called a 'good egg'. Been told to rock, been told to steady myself. Been told to (please) be goin' places.
Chillingly good stuff besides Mignola, Slint, M, Knut and really big chunks of tinfoil?

It depends: most of the time it isn't, often it's a showcase of an already established series, sometimes it is, and sometimes something really works in the pages of DHP so why not give it its own series? I really loved the Resident Alien serial in DHP, so I'm excited about it becoming a series. The recent DHP has also introduced me to two pre-existing series (Finder and Age of Reptiles) that have in the past few months become favorites.

Guys i was talking about the new stories. Of course you know Hellboy, other old series is just a showcase for and a boost for the comic to sell.

Finder i knew was also older series.

That doesn't change anything from the obvious fact that DHP would (still) be a showcase for exquisite and crispy new tales on either existing or longstanding or totally new stuff, or either nigh abandoned material. Since the idea would appear to be that anything might go if stuff would be welcomely applicable to the realm of Dark Horse, because in itself DHP wouldn't be limiting itself to only specifically longstanding titles?
Such seems to have always been the case for DHP and also Cheval Noir. It's a showcase catering to making new material possible, instead of merely catering to but specific establishedly exclusive or self-centered titles like Batman or Spider-Man or Buffy. It would be what's so cool about it I would think?

The thing is im not a regular DH reader other than Hellboy,BPRD and i didnt know about this anthology until i got sick of DC,Marvel didnt have alot new that isnt superhero. I impulse added DHP in my pull list to try new indy creators. I thought all the stories was only features and didnt know they might get an ongoing, mini series after DHP showing.

Frankly i added DHP because Black Beetle by Francvilla feature and Lobster Johnson feature. Now i think about they are both pulp hero story.

I don't know if this has been posted here before, but this is just too awesome:

From Joe Querio's DeviantArt. I hope he does another story with Mignola soon.
